Kootenay National Park is a beautiful park with mountain rivers, deep canyons, waterfalls, and even hot springs. It’s the best place to do camping because of the beautiful sights to behold.

Make sure to bring your skates when you do a stop over at Lake Windermere Whiteway, which is a long skating path that you and your family can enjoy. Whether you’re into that, or cross country skiing, this is the perfect place for you.

The Panorama Nordic Center has a lot of trails for winter sports like snowboarding and skiing as well. In the same city, you can warm yourself by the hot springs in Radium Hot Springs. (Cool contrast, right?)

To add another reason to visiting, it’s also one of the national parks included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are also guided hikes where you’ll learn about history and even fossils found there. So it’s not only beautiful, but also very educational.

2. Dinosaur Provincial Park

Within just a short drive from Calgary, you can learn so much from the deep deposit of fossils they have at the Dinosaur Provincial Park. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It’s considered the largest continuous stretch of Badlands worldwide, giving photographers a great subject. You can go on hikes that are relatively easy and can be enjoyed by the whole family.

You can go to the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology and see their collection of dinosaur skeletons, the largest in the world! You can search for different kinds of fossils, cast your own fossil, and go on a self-guided tour surrounding the museum.

The Drumheller Valley completes your dinosaur experience. They have interactive exhibits perfect for kids in nursery, preschool, elementary school, and even much older kids in high school and college.  It’s definitely a fun family activity that beats a normal theme park any day.
