Nothing beats a good old fashioned picnic. So, dust off your picnic baskets and blankets in the summer time for a bonding session over sandwiches, BBQ, burgers, pizza, or your choice of finger food.

If you’re feeling fancy, you can have tea and biscuits as well. On the other hand, if you prefer to make your own food to bring to your picnic party, you can also have groceries and fresh fruits delivered to your doorstep for that hassle-free preparation.

You can even go an extra mile and have a personal chef make it for you. How’s that for a picnic?

After that, you can nap under the shade of the trees.

2. Play mini golf and ball games.

There are a lot of open spaces for all kinds of games that you can play as a family or with friends. You can even play mini golf, which will definitely bring up a  healthy dose of competition among the kids.

It will be a fun family-friendly experience everyone will surely enjoy. The grownups can watch the kids play and run free because there are so many open, green spaces for them to play in.

3. Enjoy paddle boating.

Since the park has a lagoon, there are a lot of water activities you can do during the summer. One of which is paddle boating, which is a fun way to pass the time while taking in the beautiful sights of nature and breathing the fresh air.

That, along with happy moments with your family, are priceless memories. You can even hire a photographer to capture those memories.

Your pictures will be a wonderful addition to the family mantel.

4. Go ice skating

During the winter when the lagoon and canal freeze over, people from all over go to the park to skate. Outdoor skating is totally free from around 5 in the morning to 11 pm.

You can even rent skates from University of Calgary Outdoor Center, however do take note that this might differ from the skating hours mentioned above. So make sure to inquire first.

They don’t allow hockey sticks, nets, toboggans, and even sleds on ice. So make sure to remind your family.

5. Rent ice bikes

If you’re not the type to skate and prefer to try the ice bikes, you’re more than welcome to do that at Bowness Park. There are ones both for adults and children, so they can be enjoyed as a family.

It’s a safer alternative and allows those who aren’t as talented in skating to still have fun on the ice.

Bowness Park basically has activities for all ages. It’s the perfect place to go to with your family or with friends.
