After two years of holding the film festival virtually, organizers have decided to hold the 17th annual Calgary Justice Film Festival (CJFF) in person this November – and get this, tickets are free of charge!
Every year the Calgary Justice Festival, previously known as the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival, presents some of the world’s best documentaries about various important social issues.
This festival aims to spur Calgarians to take initiative within their communities, country, and even the world. The mandate of the festival is to present the best possible films to a varied audience.
Check out the screening schedule and venues for the three-day event below:
The documentaries above were chosen from a submission pool of over 500 filmmakers hailing from a hundred nations. To see the synopsis and learn more about each film, check out this site.
The CJFF uses the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a blueprint for the programming of the films they present. All the films they’ll show aligns with at least one goal, but many films touch on multiple goals.
Aside from a screening of the documentaries, there will be discussions with the filmmakers or experts on the film’s topic to encourage enlightening discourse. The discussions are often lively, inclusive, and very thought-provoking.
On November 19 and 20, there will also be a Peace Fair during the screening where different non-profit organizations and social agencies will have tables that aim to present their missions and goals. You can check this out at the event venue.
Although entrance to this event is free of charge, donations are encouraged. You can donate here.
If you’re looking for a meaningful, educational, and fascinating event to spend your time, CJFF is an event you should not miss.
NOTE: Aside from the annual film festival, CJFF also presents justREEL, a year-round film series that you can check out here.
