It’s a tradition in Calgary to visit ZooLights every holiday season for a magical and festive seven weeks of a family-friendly experience. This year, ZooLights is back for its 26th year, presented by Olympia Trust Company.
Calgary’s award-winning holiday tradition started on November 18, 2022, and will end on January 8, 2023. With millions of twinkling lights at every turn, this year’s enchanting winter wonderland is brighter and more magical than ever.
Check out the following details so you can visit ZooLights with ease:
ZooLights hosts a number of special event nights. On December 15 to 16, 2022, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo will host a family-friendly party dubbed “Beary Merry Holiday Party,” where everyone can eat, drink, and be beary merry.
Your family can also stroll through all of the themed areas and activities, beginning with the Prehistoric Park. Here you can immerse yourself in stories from the tangled mountain forest complex surrounding Mt. Kenya in “Destination Africa.”
At “Bee-ting the Drum for Bongo,” an interactive drumming experience, you’ll get to see the link between a critically endangered antelope species and the buzzing of honey bees.
If you want a visual feast, the “Garden of Light in the Dorothy Harvie Gardens” awaits which will be illuminated with colorful lights.
Kids can also enjoy a multi-sensory experience in the gorilla amphitheater and stroll through a new themed section honoring animals from the North and South Poles.
Of course, they’re bringing back all of the traditional activities that everyone has grown to love. Walk through the “Tunnel of Light,” put your arm to the test with Rival Axe Throwing, warm up by the firepits, and pay a visit to Santa at his cabin.
Finally, you can celebrate the last night of the year with the best and brightest backdrop in the city through their “Zoo Year’s Eve.” This includes all of the excitement of ZooLights plus extra special entertainment, such as numerous countdowns.
This is a package ticket (all special events are separately ticketed) that also includes renting one of their Snow Globes. These provide visitors with a private oasis surrounded by beautiful twinkling lights.
