Indulge in the Best Fondue in Calgary from These 4 Amazing Spots!

A few months ago, after one cooking class, I was determined to impress my friends with a homemade cheese fondue.

I gathered all the essentials—cheese, wine, and a fancy pot—then promptly set the kitchen ablaze while trying to get the perfect melt.

Spoiler alert: the fire department was not impressed, and my friends were too busy laughing to dip their bread.

Since that culinary catastrophe, I’ve learned my lesson: fondue is best left to the pros.

So, if you’re craving that gooey goodness without the risk of calling 911, here are all of my favourite spots in Calgary for fondue, where the only thing melting is cheese—not pots!

The Living Room Restaurant is my go-to when I want fresh, handmade pasta, cheese, and chocolate fondue. There’s just something about that cheese fondue that gets me every time.

The six-year-old white cheddar and Grana Padano blend is so creamy and rich, especially when you dip in the fresh bread. I love how they offer add-ons like seasonal veggies, chorizo sausage, and grilled prawns.

My favourite pasta dish here is the lasagna Napoli. The 24-hour Syrah beef ragu layered between fresh pasta, and béchamel is just divine.

And if you still have room for dessert, their chocolate fondue is delicious. It features a dark chocolate ganache paired with fresh fruit and house made pastries.

Pro Tip: Their wine list is excellent! They have a fantastic selection of bubbles, rosé, whites, and reds that perfectly complement any meal.

2. Moonlight & Eli

Moonlight & Eli is the spot for intimate champagne and fondue with good music and chill vibes.

Their weekly rotating fondues keep things exciting. Plus, with over 20 champagnes by the glass, you’ll always find something new to sip on.

I love starting with their snacks; the olives with nuts and the charcuterie board with three meats are always a hit. The melon and prosciutto drizzled with tajin is so refreshing, especially paired with the bubbly.

When it comes to fondue, the cheese flavor is the star of the show. But don’t sleep on the chocolate dessert fondue!

Their classic Swiss fondue is the perfect blend of Gruyère and Emmental. The dipping options are endless, but I can’t resist the bread cubes and the pickled vegetables.

A little splash of Kirschwässer, which is a type of brandy, makes it even better!

Pro Tip: If you’re not feeling the champagne, you can always order a flight of wine instead.

3. Frenchie Wine Bar

  • Sunday to Thursday – 5 PM to 11 PM
  • Friday & Saturday – 5 PM to 12 AM

Frenchie Wine Bar fits only 38 people, so this is a place to snag reservations quickly. They’re known for their incredible cheese boards and, of course, their mouth-watering fondue.

I can’t resist starting with their Tete de Moine cheese board whenever I visit.

This semi-hard, raw cow’s milk cheese is aged for two months, and they shave it into these beautiful rosettes with a traditional Girolle. The combination of nuts, dried fruit, honey, and crostini makes this cheeseboard to die for.

Then, for the fondue, I usually flip between their Frenchie Fondue and the classic fondue.

The Frenchie is a blend of Gruyère and Emmental cheese. It’s then drizzled with truffle oil and honey, and sprinkled with cracked pepper.

It pairs perfectly with the sourdough for dipping!

The Classic Fondue is always a winner if I’m in the mood for something classic. It’s made with fresh garlic and the same rich cheese combo.

Plus, adding Fuji apples and dried figs is highly recommended for a sweet twist.

Pro Tip: Even though Frenchie is closed until 2025, you can still book it for a private event! Just email them at [email protected].

Bitter Sisters is the place for beer, sandwiches, and fondue.

My go-to here is definitely the Nashville hot chicken. It has a spicy buttermilk marinade and is topped with crispy house pickles.

A dollop of mayo on a fluffy roast onion bun completes the experience.

And those hand-cut Kennebec fries? I can never resist getting them poutine style; the cheese curds and gravy take it to another level.

Then there’s the Philsner Fondue, which is grand cheddar combined with Pilsner and roasted seasonal veggies. It’s especially good when you dip sourdough, pickles, and their local bratwurst into it.

Pro Tip: Try their kimchi popcorn! It’s spicy, buttery, and delicious.
