If you don’t feel like having groceries and fruits delivered to your home and prefer to shop at a grocery store or health food store, this guide is for you. This is to ensure that you strategically shop for supplies at your chosen store.
Table of Contents
1. Create a meal plan and stick to it.
Prior to going to a store, you have to evaluate and think about the meals you’re going to prepare for the week. Try to make a list of ingredients and check your pantry so you don’t end up buying more than what you need.
A pro tip would be to group ingredients in your list by aisle (produce, frozen goods, canned goods) so it would be easier. It will also keep you from wandering down the store aimlessly where you might end up buying more things you don’t actually need.
2. Have a quick snack first.
I don’t know if you’ve heard of this tip before, but don’t shop hungry! It will just tempt you into buying junk food or food you don’t need.
Have a quick bite at your favorite restaurant first before going there. Here are some great restaurants you can go to in Calgary:
- Spanish restaurants
- Chinese restaurants
- Burger restaurants
- Seafood restaurants
- Steak restaurants
- Indian restaurants
- BBQ restaurants
- Vietnamese restaurants
- Japanese restaurants
3. Check the labels.
Be mindful of the labels of the food you’re eating. Avoid food items that contain refined flour, hydrogenated oils, lots of preservatives, artificial sweeteners, colors, and high-fructose corn syrup.
Foods that are processed are higher in calories and aren’t nutritious and filling. So it’s best to avoid those.
4. Buy food of different colors.
It’s great if you eat colorful fruits and vegetables during meals. This ensures that you can manage your calorie intake better and allows you to have a variety of nutrients your body needs.
To ensure this, shop for different colored items at the grocery store. Include reds, greens, oranges, and blues in your shopping cart.
5. Avoid shopping for food you tend to overindulge in.
Think about foods that you overindulge in. If you can’t limit your serving sizes, it might be best to not shop for them at all and enjoy them outside instead.
Instead of eating ice cream out of the container, how about enjoying a small scoop at your favorite ice cream place? You’ll be able to control your portions better this way.
