Nicole Maclean is an occupational therapist who specializes in supporting neurodivergent children who have delays in motor and sensory development, and emotional regulation. She has worked in hospitals, camps, and community rehabilitation centers for the past 25 years.
She is the proud new owner of Spring Occupational Therapy Inc. together with her husband Brandon. Together, they relaunched Spring OT and its tried and true services.
But take note that Maclean has only recently taken over the business. Hence we can’t actually score her perfectly in her success rate as well as her relationship with her clients.
If you’re looking for an occupational therapy clinic for your child, Spring OT is the perfect candidate. Their extensive service is provided to children less than a year old up to 18 years—something that we rarely see with other clinics.
Spring OT’s therapy is tailor-fit to the needs of every child to improve both their fine and gross motor skills.
You can find Maclean and Spring OT’s exceptional staff in both in-home and virtual sessions. Their services also extend to the parents of their clients, so you also have the tools to help your child through and after their sessions.
The clinic also caters to your busy schedules as their services are flexible with half-day and full-day services, as well as summer camps.
But don’t knock their services till you try it! Their range of services are worth asking about what they can offer to your older children.
Pros
- Specializes in pediatric occupational therapy
- Offers after-school sessions
- Cater to children <1 to 18 years old
- Provides a free online initial consultation call
Cons
- No clinic
Customer Reviews:
Spring OT changed the course of my son’s school experience.
“Spring OT changed the course of my son’s school experience. He had become frustrated and unwilling to try anything school-related due to his perception that he was “bad” because he had a weak pencil grip. On the advice of a pediatrician, I sought out private OT for him in the desperate hope we might be able to restore his confidence and his interest in school.
From the moment I spoke to Trish for the intake call, I knew this was the place for him. Her kind manner put me at ease and 10 minutes later, she vowed that she had the “right” therapist for my son. Erin has brought my vibrant son back from the brink. He loves attending his sessions that he has named “Parkour with Erin” because of the work in the sensory gym.
At our most recent session, we both marveled at how far he had come – she could barely get him to pick up a piece of chalk when we started and now he was printing out a list on the blackboard, sounding out unfamiliar words. To say I highly recommend would be an understatement. I contacted 3 other clinics closer to my home, yet I continue to choose the outstanding care at Spring OT, despite the 25-30 minute drive.”

Cherie Deur is an exceptional occupational therapist with 15 years of experience in pediatrics under her belt. She specializes in preschool early intervention, augmentative communication, and powered mobility.
We think that Deur’s experience in several fields gives her an edge on being able to craft the best treatment plan for your child. This, coupled with Pathways Pediatrics’ great facilities makes her services a great candidate to consider.
Deur is joined by a great team as well. Pathways have an expansive team that features highly qualified speech therapists and occupational therapists.
As for Pathways, we really like the range of services they offer and how affordable they are. They even have a program that would help their clients avail for funding for some early childhood services.
One of the strengths of Pathways Pediatrics is its services towards speech pathology. They not only have dedicated individual sessions but also have camps that are dedicated to helping your child’s speech.
On that note, we love the idea of speech summer camps, as it would not only help your child with their initial needs but also help them socialize with their same age group as well.
Pathways Pediatrics offers different variations of summer camps that cater to the different aspects of speech your child may have trouble in. You can check the extent of the camps’ services as well as their prices on their website.

- Large team
- Affordable per hour rate

Customer Reviews:
We are forever thankful for the opportunity to work with them.
“We have attended Pathways for the last 2.5 years. What a life-changing experience it has been, my son has come leaps and bounds with the love, support, and encouragement he receives from the whole team. Danielle is a perfect fit for Rocco, they have an amazing relationship and she helps him reach all his goals. Syrina is also a part of our team, showing such patience and love. Rocco wouldn’t be where he is today without Pathways and the team. We are forever thankful for the opportunity to work with them and how they give my son the chance he deserves.”
If you are looking for a GREAT Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), look no further.
“My Daughter has been with Tanya for more than 2 years and I can honestly say if it wasn’t for her my daughter would probably not have transformed to the happy and outgoing little girl that she is today. My daughter actually looks forward to her weekly session and doing the work home afterwards. I have also seen a lot of progress in her ability to communicate and comprehend over the last 2 years. If you are looking for a GREAT Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who loves working with children, look no further.”

Balance Works Occupational Therapy offers their help through three ways: assessment, treatment, and coaching. Neek’s range of services ranges from simple ergonomic assessments to treatment methods that include Job Coaching and Accelerated Resolution Therapy.
One of the lesser-known facets of occupational therapy is having to help mental illness patients get back up their feet and build their confidence to perform daily tasks. As debilitating as the burden of mental illness is, Neek offers a helping hand in navigating everyday life through the illness.
Balance Works Occupational Therapy focuses more on adult clients who have been through a lot, and their tailored treatment plans offer pacing fit for the patient. They offer support for patients who want to make their lives more manageable, whether they’re suffering from PTSD, ADHD or other mental illnesses.
If you’re looking for occupational therapists whose clients are more focused on the living experiences of an adult, then Balance Works may be a good fit for your needs. They have clients ranging from returning soldiers returning to civilian life, to trauma patients who seek healing.
Pros
- Wide range of treatments for adults
- Good fit for veterans, trauma survivors, and patients suffering from mental illness
- The OT makes home visits
Cons
- Limited services to younger clients
- Works in your own community/space, so if you’re not comfortable with that, consider skipping their services
Customer Reviews:
My sessions with Carlyn have had a very positive impact on my life.
My sessions with Carlyn have had a very positive impact on my life. I came to her during a period of uncertainty, as well as a lack of confidence and self-worth. Carlyn took the time to get to know me, my background and my values system. She then used my previous successes to help me work towards achieving future goals. She helped me develop techniques to use whenever my internal dialogue would turn negative or work against me.
I am so grateful for our sessions. They have allowed me to be open to new opportunities and to embrace them instead of run away from them. In our short time together, I have started a new job (which I love and am excelling at), moved back to Calgary (which was my long-term plan), and started a very healthy and meaningful relationship with a wonderful woman.
Thank you Carlyn, for helping me welcome all of life’s amazing opportunities!!
Carlyn was incredible.
Carlyn was incredible. She was very kind and also professional, helping me through a very difficult time. The type of work that she does is absolutely critical in helping people to get back on their feet so the work she does influences every area of people’s lives. She was really focused on goals and supporting me in the decisions that I needed to make. She helped provide very specific tools which enabled me to progress quite quickly. I highly recommend the important work that she does and her specifically as a provider of that service.
4. Allison Miron – Root to Rise Pediatrics
Criteria | Rating |
Service Quality | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Credentials and Experience | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Range of Services | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Success Rate | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Client Satisfaction | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Overall attitude | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Clinician-Client relationship | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Facilities and Equipment | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Price point | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
Allison Miron is an occupational therapist who specializes in pediatric occupational therapy. For more than 5 years, she has worked in both private and public practice both locally and internationally.
She is the proud woman behind Root to Rise Pediatrics, a facility dedicated to provide private occupational therapy services for children aged 2 to 15. She specializes in a child’s fine motor skills development, emotional regulation, and sensory processing, to name a few.
What we love about Miron is that she prefers working in a home and community-based environment. She utilizes most of the home and community environment to tailor fit both your child’s needs and the treatment plan to a more familiar environment.
This would be great for your child to be more adjusted in your home setting. But its drawback is that the sessions would be less flexible, as compared to OTs with clinics where you can entrust your children.
Though, we’d like to point out that her range of service is rather limited. But she is willing to work with other professionals that your child has, such as a child psychologist or a physical therapist.
Having said this, Miron works with most of the adults in the child’s life beyond their primary caregivers. That means, she also coaches the child’s teachers, grandparents, and other adults who have significant roles with the child’s environment and upbringing.
It should be noted that Root to Rise’s services are a private practice, and they do not bill directly to insurance companies. We didn’t give them a higher rating with their price point because of this, as access to their services may be limited to the greater public.
Pros
- Uses trauma-informed approach
- Free 20-minute phone call to discuss concerns
- Coaches caregivers and teachers besides the primary caregivers
Cons
- Doesn’t bill to insurance companies
- Only private care service available
- Maternity leave till fall 2022
Customer Reviews:
Allison is an extraordinary therapist.
“I have had the privilege of working on a professional team with Allison for two years. Her creativity and compassion are apparent in every interaction she has with both children and parents. She is highly skilled as an OT and is able draw from an incredible wealth of information and training. Allison’s commitment to the families she works with is exemplified in her willingness to try many different strategies and interventions, and to follow the child’s lead until that child experiences success! She is amazing with all the children she works with, but has patience and empathy that allows her to work exceptionally well with children who have complex needs or challenging behaviours. Allison is an extraordinary therapist and I confidently recommend her to any family looking for support!”
Ali puts the children first!
“Ali puts children first! Always, always, your child will be at the front of her mind. Allison is tremendous with her relationship building between children and their families. She takes the time to “listen” and “hear” what you are saying and is committed to providing the best support possible. Ali will think ‘outside’ the box to ensure that your child has the best individualized programming that they require. She is current with her knowledge base and is continually expanding her repertoire and readily shares any and all information. Ali has that unseen quality – she is a master in her field.”

Customer Reviews:
Here are some reviews from their clients:
“Sean Lloyd treated one of my clients after she had been in a car crash and was having difficulty doing her job. Not only did he work hard to get funding from a difficult ICBC adjuster for the treatments that my client needed, but he was able to quarterback her treatment plan and set realistic goals. Ultimately when the case went to trial Sean testified in a clear and helpful way about what treatments he had recommended, why he recommended them, and how my client’s injuries were problematic for her particular occupation. Sean is a great occupational therapist and I would recommend him to anyone whose injuries are affecting their occupations at work, home or recreationally.”
“I am an injury lawyer in Victoria BC. Sean Lloyd was the Occupational Therapist assigned to a number of my clients as their case manager. His role included identifying their treatment needs, identifying their in-home care needs, and requesting funding approval from first-party insurers.
