Nothing says celebration more than cake! Come on, it’s a sweet treat that just can’t be beat or grown out of, from your first few birthday cakes to a wedding cake for that big day. Cake’s just as much a staple on many tables as, say, coffee is.
A big part of why cake has persisted so much is just the sheer customization and convenience. You can decorate it however you like, from its shape to its flavors and colors. It’s also usually big enough to serve multiple folks! What’s not to love?
If it isn’t obvious after all that, I’m a big fan of cake. The sheer number of cake shops in Calgary had my sweet tooth aching in the best way! After getting my friends together to make sure I don’t have a sugar crash, we’ve come up with some of our favorites here.

The name of this bakeshop says a lot, and who could resist something that’s pretty and sweet? The Pretty Sweet Bakeshop was a popular name among Calgary’s locals, especially with families, so we had to drop by and see what was up.
What we got was a pretty sweet (too soon?) selection of cake. The bakeshop offered a wide range of cake designs, highly customizable from classic one-tiered cakes to photo cakes. They even offered specially themed ones to fit any event.
We were stoked to see they didn’t slack on their flavor selections either. Our group was happy to settle with their classic vanilla bean, but those who prefer their cakes a little less sugary might appreciate their understated flavors like Earl Grey and lemon cake!
If you choose to grab a sweet treat here, we’d recommend asking for directions beforehand. Don’t be like us! We got lost a couple of times looking for the bakeshop, and everyone knows it’s unwise to delay someone with a sweet tooth.

Linger around Calgary’s cake scene, and you might have spotted some really cute cakes shaped like realistic fruits. We certainly did! Our curiosity took us all the way to their source: Willow Cake & Bake.
These whimsical fruit-shaped cakes turned out to be mousse cakes! When we dropped in for a visit, we also got to browse their more conventionally styled cakes, especially their fresh cream and buttercream offerings.
What we really liked was that there was something for almost every taste in our group. Their cake flavors ranged from classics like chocolate ganache to fruitier flavors, featuring strawberry, peach, and even lychee.
We got to enjoy all of this while relaxing in their shop, which had a fairly casual ambiance. The general quiet of the shop made it easy to chat amongst ourselves and other customers and helped tide us over while waiting a while for our treats.

It took us a little while to find this bakeshop, but Ola Luna Cake & Bakeshop popped up a whole lot when we asked around Calgary locals for their favorite small bakeries. Plenty of locals considered this place a hidden gem, and we can see why.
The shop offered a wide variety of desserts, from cookies to cupcakes to whole cakes. Their cake selection was just as varied as their desserts, featuring mousse cakes, shortcakes, and even cheesecakes.
Our visit to the shop saw us chat with a couple of regulars, where we picked up on their favorite flavors. Their dulce de leche cakes were a hit among locals, though our group got especially fond of their cookies & cream cake and fresh fruit custard cheesecake.
When chatting with the staff and customers, we did hear that they could have days when the products offered at the store could be limited. We’d definitely recommend dropping by early and picking up your favorites before they run out!

Sweet Relief Pastries landed on our radar after, surprisingly, recent brides pointed us their way! With that kind of reception, how could we not drop by and check it out for ourselves?
This Calgary pasty shop offers a wide range of sweet treats, including cookies, shortbread, and cakes. Their cake offerings varied in sizes and tiers, from a classic round one to a full, three-tiered cake fit for any wedding!
We were beginning to see why this bakery got popular for events, and their flavor offerings nailed that further. Aside from classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla, the shop offered coconut cream, cookies and cream, and even churro cakes!
Their products came at pretty reasonable prices, especially for the portion sizes they were serving. If you find a favorite at this bakeshop, we’d recommend checking out their custom cakes next time you have an event.

Looking for fully vegan desserts can feel a whole lot like looking for a needle in a haystack, so you can imagine our surprise when we found Kinni Cakery almost immediately.
This bakery rose to popularity for its fully eggless cakes, making them a hit among vegans with a sweet tooth. Kinni Cakery offered a wide variety of cakes, not just whole ones, but also cupcakes and cake jars for a whimsical touch.
The whimsy doesn’t end there! We got to browse their selection of custom cakes, and the sheer variety blew us away. The bakery could easily do almost any theme under the sun, whether it be for an event like a holiday or for a special someone.
While snacking on some jarred cakes, we got to chat up some of the shop’s customers. One thing definitely stood out among all the praise, and that was the accuracy of their personalized cakes to the inspiration images. Try ordering one sometime!
