That said, we also suggest trying out the most popular ones like the Panago classic and the chicken club. 

They also have plant-based pizzas if you don’t like the aforementioned flavors. Additionally, you can always make your own pizza and choose your desired cheese, crust, sauce, and toppings.

The 17th Ave area is popular among foodies with adventurous taste buds looking to expand their palate with international dishes. 

One of the more unique cuisines in the neighbourhood is The Himalayan, which offers Nepalese homegrown delicacies. If you have yet to try this cuisine, their popular meals include momos, dal bhat, and chau chau – all of which this restaurant offers.

While they have a lot of food items on their menu, their pastas and pizzas are certainly to die for. We’re talking about the chicken parmigiana, beef short rib ravioli, pepperoni pizza, and hot sicilian.

The Beirut Bakery and Restaurant is one of the most affordable choices in the 17th ave area. That said, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have exciting delectable dishes to offer!

In fact, this well-loved store specializes on a lot of Lebanese delights which includes falafel, hummus, and the likes. 

We absolutely devoured their spinach & feta pocket, which continues to be our favorite food item on their menu until today.

Peak Pizza are pizza makers who put a lot of focus on the crunchiness of their crust, which is one of the many reasons we love them. Aside from this exciting fact, we also find their extensive menu thrilling, especially for those looking for an assortment of flavors. 

They have a lot of unique options like donair pizza, tandoori chicken pizza, and tandoori paneer pizza. Peak Pizza is definitely a must-try, especially if you’re in the mood to ditch the classics.

Whenever we’re in the mood for a luxurious dining experience on 17th ave, Cassis Bistro is usually the way to go. It’s a lot of fresh, South-of-France food done right!

Their menu changes often depending on the availability from their supplier, so we find it exciting every time. However, as of writing, we found their steak frites absolutely ravishing.

Shoebox Fried Chicken is Calgary’s very own fast food restaurant that we always suggest to our visiting friends. They have a wide selection of flavors, most of which are very interesting. 

Their unique flavors include the budlak heat wave with corn cheese and corn padano. We like the former more though. 

They also have more classic flavors worth trying such as the original, zesty spring onions, and cheddar the chicken rancher.

They’re not really adventurous when it comes to experimenting with their menu. However, we do enjoy their classic drinks, so we’re not complaining too much! We suggest trying out the caramel corretto or the vanilla bean latte.

If you’re looking for a spot where good time is guaranteed, head over to The Ship & Anchor. We find it best to catch one of their many events to make sure you’re getting the most out of your visit. 

They host a wide range of shows including drag performances, live music, dungeon & dragons campaigns for beginners, and more. 

Of course, their drink menu is also worth mentioning for the diverse selections they offer. There’s whisky, scotch, cocktails, wine, and brews on tap. 

Newcastle Pub

Right at the edge of 17th ave is the Elbow River Casino. It’s for anyone looking for thrilling games that are made for those who are feeling lucky. 

Their gaming style is reminiscent of Las Vegas but just a tad bit less lavish. As of writing, they have about 600 slot machines and fun table games like roulette, blackjack, and baccarat. 

If you’re feeling famished after your game, they have impressive dining options such as Sammy’s sports bar, Jester’s deli, and Jester’s buffet.

If you’re down for a good laugh, check out Yuk Yuk’s Calgary, a comedy bar at the edge of 17th ave. They have a lot of different interesting acts lined up, which you can check on their website.

That said, we highly recommend checking out amateur night. Since a lot of the participants are complete beginners, some might be hilarious but some might attract quite a few crickets in the audience. 

We like how unpredictable it is, though!

Basically, what we’re saying is Phoenix Comic Books is a geek haven. If you’re a geek – a lot of us are – it’s a must-visit!
