Everyone knows I’m not a motorcycle rider. I’m more of a “four wheels and a steering wheel” kind of guy.

But my friend lives and breathes motorcycles. So, when he decided to upgrade his ride, I went along to a dealership downtown to see what all the fuss was about.

Needless to say, the selection was limited to a few dusty Harleys and a couple of overpriced sports bikes. What’s more, the sales staff was disinterested in helping us!

My friend, who was looking for a classic cafe racer, ended up walking out empty-handed and frustrated.

It made me realize that choosing the right motorcycle dealer is crucial, especially if you’re looking for something specific or a good deal. So, I decided to do some research to find out which dealerships in the city were actually worth their salt.

We, at The Best Calgary, spent time interviewing customers and checking out places to provide expert insights. Here’s who made it to our list of the best motorcycle dealers in Calgary.

How much does it cost to buy a motorcycle from a motorcycle dealer in Calgary?

It costs at least 4,000 CAD to buy a basic level motorcycle in Calgary. The actual cost will depend on the brand, any gear you get, and other factors.

Calgary Cycle City is all about giving you options. They’ve got a wide range of bikes—new and used—from Harley Davidson to Triumph and everything in between.

We talked to a guy who has been hunting for a specific vintage Harley for ages, and he found it there.

Aside from the wide selection, the sales team is commendable for their knowledge. Plus, they’ll even help you make a smart decision before you drop a bunch of cash.

The service is also top-notch.

We heard from a few riders who had issues with their bikes a few weeks after buying them. Calgary Cycle City took care of it fast and professionally.

Their Red Seal mechanics are good with all makes and models. They also do custom work—perfect for seasoned bikers.

Others love their motorcycle rescue program for roadside assistance, free seasonal maintenance, and a longer riding season.

However, they sometimes drop the ball on follow-up for parts inquiries.

A couple of riders told us they asked about specific parts for their bikes. The dealership said they’d get back to them, but they didn’t hear anything for weeks.

Pros

  • Huge selection
  • Knowledgeable sales team
  • Excellent repair service
  • Great for custom work
  • Beneficial motorcycle rescue program

Cons

  • Slow on parts follow-ups and inquiries

Got scheduled quite quickly and the work was done fast

First time using them for service after a recommendation’s from a neighbour and I wasn’t disappointed. Mags gave me a quote for new tires on my Harley FXDL and went over the differences between brands. Got scheduled quite quickly and the work was done fast and at the price quoted and it was ready when promised. Everyone I talked to there was pleasant and friendly. I’m a new satisfied customer and will be back for any services I need. Thanks.”

Everyone was super kind, patient, and knowledgeable

“Everyone at Calgary Cycle City was incredible. My motorcycle broke down in Calgary during a road trip with a friend. I was about a thousand miles from home and thought I’d have to cancel the trip and ship the bike home. They looked at my bike first thing in the morning and had it repaired in a few hours. I was back on the road by noon and able to resume the trip. Everyone was super kind, patient, and knowledgeable.”

The staff were great and made the buying process super easy

“I made a long trip from northern Alberta to buy a new Indian chief dark horse from Calgary cycle works and would do it all again. The staff were great and made the buying process super easy. Vlatko is a great salesman and puts a lot of care into making sure you get what you’re looking for without being pushy at all or trying to over sell. He even helped me load the bike into a trailer and tie it down for my long journey home. I strongly recommend these guys for your next bike!”

For anyone interested in buying an Indian motorcycle

“Great parts department. I was able to order everything I needed for my bike. The parts were shipped within a week of my order. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. Ducati bike experts

“My experience with Sport Cycle has been positive from the start. First, Patti was very willing and welcoming to answer all my questions, as this is my first year riding a bike. She was patient and thorough in her answers, making sure I was well informed of repair intervals for my Ducati Monster and the costs it entailed. I went in to get my tires replaced, and despite my rookie mistake of not seeing the cords in my heavily worn tires, Jun reserved his judgement and simply advised me to be more careful at inspecting my bike at regular intervals. I got the first 12,000 km service on my bike, whereby the valves were adjusted and the cam belts replaced, among other routine maintenance. ”

Their honesty, expertise, and professionalism had me back on the road in no time

“James and his team are truly the best in town!  I brought my Ducati in with a potentially catastrophic electrical issue.  Their honesty, expertise and professionalism had me back on the road in no time with a perfectly running motorcycle.  I won’t take my bike anywhere else, highly recommended 10/10!!”

Barnes Powersports Blackfoot has a good mix of new and used bikes from different manufacturers. We talked to one guy who was really happy to find a vintage BMW he’d been searching for.

Moreover, the staff are patient and helpful. Even better, they don’t try to rush you into anything, especially purchasing.

Beyond the bikes, they’ve got a solid service department with skilled techs who can handle any repairs or maintenance. Plus, they have a good selection of parts and accessories for all kinds of bikes.

People we talked to loved the quick and efficient service. They also appreciated how the techs explained what was going on with their bikes.

The only downside we’ve observed is the after-sales service. A few people mentioned the follow-up after buying a bike wasn’t the best.

Many had minor issues with their new bikes a few weeks later, and it took a few phone calls and emails to get a response from the service department.

Pros

  • Great new and used bikes selection
  • Plenty of test rides
  • No-pressure sales staff
  • Awesome selection of parts
  • Great variety of accessories

Cons

  • Poor after-sales service

Great place with helpful staff

“No other dealership in Calgary has such a huge inventory of motorcycles, and the best part is that Barnes Powersports Blackfoot is the leader in sales of certain brands in all of Canada! Great place with a wonderful staff who will always help with advice on not only choosing a motorcycle, but also equipment. Always available for service consultations. And now we can also “dive” into the world of Harley-Davidson! The perfect place!!!!!!!! Everyone who just wants to start his fascinating way two-wheeled rider or is already a happy owner of an “iron horse” – I recommend the Barnes Powersports Blackfoot.

P.S. Pet friendly!!!!”

Nothing short of exceptional

“I recently purchased my first Ducati Panigale V4, and I have to say, my experience was nothing short of exceptional. Miles was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, answering all my questions and offering valuable insights from his own experience. He truly went above and beyond to ensure I felt confident in my decision. A big thank you also to Chris, who handled the delivery of my bike. He took the time to walk me through every detail, making sure I was comfortable and fully informed about my new Ducati. Overall, the atmosphere at Barnes was fantastic. Every staff member I interacted with was friendly and eager to help. This has been, by far, one of the best dealership experiences I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!”

Operating hours: Tuesday to Saturday –  10 AM to 5 PM

GW Cycle World is a one-stop shop for pretty much anything you need on two wheels. They’ve got a massive selection of gear, parts, and accessories.

We talked to a few riders who were stoked about the sheer variety and quality of stuff they found here. Some had been searching for a specific helmet for weeks, and they finally found it at GW Cycle World.

Beyond gear, they also carry a decent selection of bikes. This includes dirt bikes, ATVs, and street bikes. Plus, their prices are competitive.

Furthermore, their service department is pretty solid. They offer everything from tire service to exhaust work and winterization.

However, they don’t work on bikes older than 2000. That’s a bummer for classic bike owners. Otherwise, they seem to have it all covered.

Pros

  • Massive selection
  • Competitive prices
  • Solid service department

Cons

  • No servicing for pre-2000 bikes

An amazing customer experience

“Just want to thank the team from GW Cycle World.

I was passing through Calgary for the day on our trip and returning back to Australia & did not realize that it was a public holiday in Alberta. Jason went WAY way beyond & personally drove my new Olympia Adventure Jacket to me even though the store was closed for the day… I really can’t thank you enough.

I have never experienced such an amazing customer experience before,,,, that was provided to me via GW CYCLE.”

The best all-around bike shop in town

“Hands down the best all-around Bike Shop in town I’ve been going here for years they treat you better than the bigger name shop in town. Recently showed up found a deadly helmet I wanted it was the last one in stock last color choice and my size had a small scuff on the side I asked if there was any wiggle room on price she knocked the helmet down to a very reasonable price and tossed me a small discount on some clothes I was picking up as well. Really enjoy how the staff takes care of everybody like their family You Don’t See This Much Anymore.

Appreciate you guys”
