While assisted living facilities offer general support for seniors when it comes to activities of daily living (ADLs) and basic medical supervision, memory care facilities take it a step further. They’re specifically designed for those with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia who need specialised support and supervision.
These facilities feature tighter security and a higher staff-to-resident ratio to ensure their patients remain safe and get individualised attention as their memory fades.
Here, your loved one can get the care they deserve while still having the chance to preserve their dignity and establish healthy connections with other people. To help you out, I’ve compiled the best memory care facilities you can trust in Calgary.

How We Chose
1. The Manor Village
Address: 22 Shawnee Hill SW
Phone number: +1 587-392-2400
Business hours: Available 24/7
The Manor Village in Calgary is more than just a memory care and retirement facility; it’s a haven for seniors seeking a vibrant, dignified lifestyle. With a history spanning seven facilities across Calgary, The Manor Village offers tailored services, including independent living, assisted care, and memory care.
A key reason why I said they’re a haven for seniors is the impressive amenities they offer, including spacious rooms, elegant dining rooms, and walking paths that feature picturesque scenery.
They even worked with the Academy of Aging to develop the Fall Prevention Program to reduce the chances of accidents occurring among seniors.
It’s also nice to see that they’ve introduced memory-retaining programs like their “Seeing is Believing” activities to keep the mental state of their seniors healthy through new hobbies and socialisation.
However, I must warn you that their unique programs and amenities come at a steep cost.
Pros
- State-of-the-art facilities
- Provides special memory-retaining programs like Seeing is Believing
- Works with the Academy of Aging to reduce the likelihood of accidents among seniors
- Has a unique recipe book of dishes and cuisine specifically developed for senior digestive systems
- 7 memory care facilities in Calgary
Cons
- Expensive
- Management was rude to staff and clients
Our mom has settled into such a caring and kind community
“We are so very pleased that our mom has settled into such a caring and kind community. The staff is amazing, from the receptionist to the maintenance to the dining staff and beyond. Laura has been an exceptional support during this transition and we are happy that our mom is able to find joy in her new home!”

2. Chartwell Retirement Residences
Address: 301 7 St SW
Phone number: +1 587-287-3944
Business hours: Available 24/7
Chartwell Retirement Residences is a prime choice when it comes to memory care facilities in Calgary. Their facility in the Eau Claire Care Residence is designed to provide everything someone with memory issues will need to live comfortably and with dignity.
Here, memory care patients will be provided with WanderGuard technology to allow them to roam independently around the facility while also allowing the staff to monitor and guide them if needed.
However, for those with advanced stages of dementia, I’m relieved to report that they have a dedicated memory care floor with its own dining room. Patients on this floor are under supervision 24/7, so you can rest easy knowing your loved one is safe at all times.
Sadly, they are one of the most popular options on this list and have a tendency to get fully booked quickly.
Pros
- Central location
- Uses WanderGuard technology to allow memory care patients to roam the facility independently if they so desire
- Dedicated memory care floor for patients with advanced stages of dementia or Alzheimer’s
Cons
- Tends to get fully booked quickly
- Some parts of the facility aren’t wheelchair-accessible
The level of care is absolutely amazing
“We are very pleased with our decision to relocate my mother and father to Chartwell Eau Claire. The level of care is absolutely amazing. The staff responds to any and all questions in a very professional manner and with a clinical care coordinator who is an RN assigned to just 3 floors of the building, there is never any lag time to get questions answered concerning my parents’ needs. Staff is also available to administer my parents’ medications and attend to their requirements as well. My parents had been at another facility previously, and the difference in service is dramatic. Additionally, Alberta Home Care has personnel embedded within the facility, which makes any requests for outside services seamless. I would not hesitate to recommend Chartwell Eau Claire to anyone who is looking for Supportive Living services.”

3. Aspira Retirement Living
Address: 750 49 Ave SW
Phone number: +1 403-476-8992
Business hours: Available 24/7
Aspira Retirement Living is a veteran when it comes to providing memory care to seniors. Located in the heart of the affluent Britannia neighbourhood, this facility can offer a relaxing stay that can improve your loved one’s mental well-being.
To prove my point, let’s start by discussing the facility itself. It features a homely vibe thanks to its wide rooms and cosy lobby, which comes with its own brick fireplace.
Not to mention, their experienced staff is ready to assist memory care patients 24/7 and has emergency services on standby if needed.
But what I’m really excited about is Journey by Aspira, a special memory care program where Journey Managers will help patients improve their bodies and minds through personalised mental development plans that include interactive games, music therapy, and more.
It’s just disappointing that they’re more expensive than their competitors.
Pros
- Located in the peaceful Britannia neighbourhood
- 24/7 emergency services on standby
- Homely vibe
- Journey by Aspira program improves the mental well-being of their memory care patients
Cons
- Above-average prices
- Bland food

4. Bethany Care Society
Address: 2915 26 Ave SE #200
Phone number: +1 587-392-3999
Business hours: Available 24/7
It’s hard to see our loved ones suffering from advanced stages of dementia. Thankfully, Bethany Care Society, a memory care facility started in 1944, may be able to help.
One thing that caught my attention is the level of care they provide through their Complex Dementia Care program.
Under this program, their facility in Riverview features spacious private rooms that are clustered into neighbourhoods and households to provide visual and sensory cues that enhance a patient’s feeling of safety and comfort.
Furthermore, their staff underwent highly specialised training like Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care (GPA) so that they are better equipped to handle patients struggling with severe memory loss.
I also appreciate that they regularly host gatherings to keep patients active and engaged.
Unfortunately, their amazing CDC program is meant to be temporary and can only care for patients for up to 18 months.
Pros
- 80 years of experience
- Special program designed for people in the late stages of dementia
- State-of-the-art facilities that enhance a patient’s feeling of safety and comfort
- Staff are trained under the Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care
Cons
- Complex Dementia Care Program isn’t designed for long-term stays
- Some staff were rude towards visitors
This facility is absolutely amazing!
“This facility is absolutely amazing!!! My mom has been there for 6 months and I am so thankful for the care she receives. I am finally able to be her daughter again, not her caregiver. This is possible only because of how exceptional the staff are! Mom moved from another facility and the difference in care is unbelievable. You can tell that the staff actually care and are not there just for a paycheque. The company provides constant continuing education for their staff and it shows!! Thank you to all the angels at Bethany Riverview for all that you do!! I can sleep at night now knowing mom has the best quality of life.”

“This place is clean and bright. Staff is friendly and caring. My cousin seems to be happy living there. Better than lots of other care homes I’ve seen!”

5. AgeCare
Address: 4963 Front St SE
Phone number: +1 587-349-8444
Business hours: Available 24/7
AgeCare, founded in 1998, is a solid option when it comes to memory care facilities. They are best known for their impressive facilities and friendly staff that provide a relaxing and calming environment that someone with memory issues needs.
It’s clear that they spared no expense in developing their beautiful facility in Seton, as it features wide hallways with handrails that allow seniors to walk comfortably on their own.
Not to mention, the facility’s memory care rooms are designed with spacious living areas and cheerful decor to remind patients of their homes.
However, a feature that really caught my attention is their sensory room for dementia care. It provides a calming environment where memory care patients can stimulate their visual, auditory, and tactile senses.
Sadly, it seems most of their budget went into building the facility, as they’re having a hard time keeping it fully staffed at all times.
Pros
- 26 years of experience
- Impressive facility with wide hallways and spacious living areas
- Sensory rooms for dementia care
- 5 memory care facilities in Calgary
Cons
- Some of their facilities have staffing problems
- Certain sections of their facilities aren’t cleaned regularly
Staff and management truly care about residents
“Very well organized. Beautiful building. Lots of rooms to visit and meals for my mother. Food is good and has lots of variety. Amazing fish tank. Staff and management truly care about residents and family or guests.”
