The 5 Best Calgary Learning Centres to Boost Your Kid’s Brain Power

Reviews: We interviewed parents and students from various centres to gather firsthand experiences. We chose places that received positive feedback and satisfaction from their learning programs.

Curriculum: We examined the types of programs offered. We favoured centres that provided diverse learning options like STEM and arts.

This ensured they aligned with current educational standards and trends.

Instructors: We checked out the qualifications and backgrounds of the instructors. Centres with passionate, experienced teachers who help students succeed earned extra points.

Environment: We took a virtual tour of the learning spaces. We looked for engaging environments that inspire creativity and focus.

Plus, they should have access to resources and technology to enhance the learning experience.

Let’s be honest, parents: finding the right learning centre for your child is like trying to tiptoe over Legos—difficult.

My daughter spent weeks going in and out of centres only to get nowhere. Every place the teacher turnover was a revolving door, the curriculum was outdated, and well, my daughter was just… bored.

God, I felt like I was failing her. I was tired of seeing her frustrated and feeling stuck.

So after getting help with extensive research, we found the best learning centres in Calgary—the ones that actually make learning less boring.

How much does it cost to take a class at a learning centre in Calgary?

It costs at least 100 CAD to take a class at a learning centre in Calgary. The final cost depends on the class type, the learning centre and more.

Right off the bat, we observed the kids engaged in hands-on activities and workshops.

Parents mentioned how much their kids look forward to their classes. This is thanks to how the centre turns a challenging subject into something enjoyable.

Their math classes were also hit. Many parents noted significant improvement in their kids’ confidence and skills.

For chess masters, Eureka has a dedicated chess school. We spotted a few kids deep in concentration, learning strategies and tactics.

And for the techies, the Scratch programming environment clicks with kids. They were controlling a cute kitten through pre-made code blocks—who wouldn’t want to learn that?

Plus, the Minecraft Education course is a genius way to teach coding through a game that kids already love.

Creative kids can also explore their artistic side with classes like piano, violin, and arts and crafts.

However, if you’re interested in enrolling your child, you can’t do it online. You have to call them up, which can be a bit of a hassle in our digital age.

Pros

  • Engaging hands-on activities
  • Dedicated chess school
  • Interactive Scratch programming
  • Enjoyable Minecraft education course
  • Variety of artistic classes

Cons

The parents we spoke with mentioned how approachable the staff were.

We witnessed firsthand how they took the time to connect with the kids. They made everyone feel valued and heard.

Their children’s classes for kids aged 5 to 10 are designed to nurture hearts and minds while teaching how to reflect on spiritual principles like love and unity.

Many parents said their kids learned to work together with others and the importance of cooperation.

Moreover, they have a Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program (JYSEP) for 11 to 14-year-olds. The kids here participate in a variety of activities—think study, arts, and even community service.

Several students admitted it feels less like a class and more like a lively group of friends brainstorming ways to make a difference.

There’s really something for everyone here. They offer a variety of classes that immerse curious minds in sciences, math, and even game theory.

Additionally, they prepare students for standardised tests like the ACT/SAT and IELTS, which is a huge plus.

Parents often rave about the personalised approach here, and we definitely saw that in action.

Tutors take the time to understand each student’s unique needs.

They tailor lessons to fit the kids’ pace and learning style. This personalised attention seems to boost students’ confidence and performance.

Furthermore, the classroom environment is bright and inviting. Plus, the variety of resources available—like challenging worksheets for college students—fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

In particular, several students mentioned how their tutor made complex concepts much more digestible. The tutor used real-life examples to bring the material to life.

They even have PreK programs like Baby Genius Math and Baby Genius English, which serve as a fantastic kickoff for the little ones!

To begin the process, they start with a free placement test to determine where your child fits best.

While we were there, we noticed how each child seemed to be engaged and thriving in their respective classes. The kids were actively participating, whether they were coding a simple game or experimenting in the science lab.

Moreover, the non-repetitive teaching methodology they use is a breath of fresh air—it’s all about teaching lifelong skills rather than rote memorization.

In terms of staff, the teachers were always ready to provide feedback—not just to the kids but to parents too. Several parents loved the weekly updates about their child’s progress and areas of focus.

However, while they do their best to personalise the learning experience, some classes were a bit crowded. This can make it harder for teachers to give individual attention.

Oxford Learning uses dynamic assessments to really get a feel for how your child learns.

They offer a wide range of subjects like reading, writing, and math. They even have language classes like English and French.

The staff were super approachable and friendly, which was a big deal for many kids—and parents!

While we were there, it was nice to see that students set their own pace. There was no rush to finish a lesson by a certain time; it was all about mastering a skill before moving on.

Whether that took just 30 minutes or stretched into a week, it was all up to them.

This approach lessened the pressure on the kids. It allowed them to absorb the material better—something that wasn’t not always possible in a typical classroom setting.

That said, the class hours aren’t super flexible. It could be a bit tricky for families with packed schedules.

While they do their best to accommodate, it’s worth keeping in mind that you might have to work around their set times.

Pros

  • Dynamic assessments
  • Wide range of subjects offered
  • Approachable staff
  • Students can set their own pace

Cons

  • Inflexible class hours
