1. River Café

Contact: (431) 450-0844 / 403-261-7670 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday–Friday: Lunch 11:00 AM–4:00 PM; Daily: Afternoon menu 4:00 PM–5:00 PM, Dinner 5:00 PM–9:00 PM; Saturday–Sunday: Brunch 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
Sometimes, finding a peaceful dinner spot in the heart of the city feels impossible, but River Café makes it easy with its location inside Prince’s Island Park.
The restaurant offers a five-course chef’s tasting menu for $130 per person, featuring ingredients from sustainable Canadian producers. This focus on regional seafood and local farms gives diners a taste of Alberta’s seasonal flavours.
We also spoke with the staff about the restaurant’s wine program, and they explained how the sommelier carefully chooses pairings to complement the seasonal menu.
Plus, their kitchen changes some dishes depending on which wild and locally sourced ingredients are available, so each visit can bring something different to the table.
The main catch is that everyone at your table must order the tasting menu, so picky eaters won’t have the option to choose simple à la carte dishes instead.
His service was incredible, the ambience was beautiful
We visited River Cafe for brunch today and had an amazing experience with our server Sam. His service was incredible, the ambience was beautiful, and the food was so tasty and well-presented. After splitting the delicious fish & game plate (we added the Avonlea cheese for an extra fee), we shared the Haida Gwaii halibut cakes and their breakfast burger w greens; both were excellent. They have tasty Monogram coffee, and we tried an Irish Coffee as well, along with their peach danish – yum! We have already booked to come back in September for dinner, to try their fall tasting menu.

I was thoroughly impressed with the meal and the service staff
I enjoyed an excellent solo dinner here when travelling for work and opted for the chef’s tasting menu. It was a 5 course pre-fix that provides you with all elements of land and sea offered here. My favourites were the wild bison, arctic char, and the crumbled dessert. I was thoroughly impressed with the meal and the service staff was so lovely and attentive. I sat at the bar and the bartender working at the time walked me through their wine list and recommended a tasty white wine that was complimentary to the meal.

2. Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant

Website: https://bvrrestaurant.com/
Address: 15979 Bow Bottom Trail SE
Contact: (403) 476-1310 | Email: [email protected] / [email protected]
Hours: Monday–Friday: Lunch 11:00 AM–2:00 PM; Monday–Sunday: Mid-Afternoon 2:00 PM–4:00 PM, Dinner 5:00 PM–Close; Saturday–Sunday: Brunch 10:00 AM–2:00 PM, Seasonal Afternoon Tea 2:00 PM–4:00 PM.
Historical surroundings can add something special to a meal, and Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant delivers just that inside a restored ranch house in Fish Creek Provincial Park.
Here, they offer a three-course lunch for $75, making it a great choice for business lunches or afternoon celebrations.
They also host private tastings with three, four, or five courses, which couples can arrange when planning special events.
The kitchen focuses on regional meats and prairie vegetables, combining classic cooking styles with locally grown ingredients.
We spoke with a client who attended a private menu trial last autumn, and they told us how easily the kitchen accommodated their group’s wine preferences.
But remember, the multi-course tasting options focus mostly on lunch and prearranged private events, so guests looking for a traditional chef-led dinner tasting may have fewer choices.
It was all just as incredible. 10/10 would recommend!
We come to BVR as often as we can, and every time we visit Calgary! We always have the best experience here and the food is just incredible every time. We’ve been here 4 times now and we’re never disappointed and have an incredible dining experience every time.
We’ve always get the beef tenderloin, but the last time we came we had our wedding menu tasting so finally tried the chicken, burrata cheese starter and chorizo mussels to start and it was all just as incredible. 10/10 would recommend!

Treat yourself to a menu tasting while planning your event
We hosted our Commitment Ceremony at BVR in late September and the entire event could not have been more spectacular. The event planner, Rosa, is amazing to work with and ensured all details were covered. The ambience and beauty of the Ranche cannot be overstated. Our guests were overwhelmed by the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff (Jensen and Erik). All three courses were magnificent. The carrot cake with buttercream frosting seemed to be the favorite dessert! Suggestion: Treat yourself to a menu tasting while planning your event. You will be glad you did!

3. Deane House

Website: https://www.deanehouse.com/
Address: 806 9 Avenue SE
Contact: (403) 264-0595 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday–Friday: Lunch & Dinner 11:30 AM–10:00 PM, Cocktail Hour 3:00 PM–5:00 PM; Friday–Sunday: Afternoon Tea 12:00 PM–4:00 PM; Saturday–Sunday: Weekend Brunch 10:00 AM–4:00 PM, Dinner 4:00 PM–Close
Deane House offers an affordable way to enjoy a tasting menu with their $75 Sunday Supper Club. They also serve a standard five-course tasting menu for $130 per person, although seasonal autumn promotions can bring the price down to $95.
Their autumn menu features dishes like squash agnolotti, seared scallops, and calf tenderloin, all highlighting local prairie ingredients.
They work closely with local growers, giving diners a taste of Western Canada through each course.
Plus, the sommelier carefully selects wine pairings to complement the seasonal dishes, creating a smooth dining experience from start to finish.
However, the promotional prices only run on certain dates, so you’ll need to check the schedule to catch a deal.
Another thing: the menu changes with seasonal farm supplies, so you can’t always count on getting a specific dish.
This was our second time enjoying the Chef’s Tasting Menu
We have been to The Deane House a few times, this was our second time enjoying the Chef’s Tasting Menu. Absolutely divine from start to finish, especially considering I have an egg allergy! Our server Liam was so welcoming and took great care of us. He ensured the Tasting menu would be an option, given my allergy, by clarifying with Chef John Beddoes. Thank you so much for making sure I had the most delicious dinner! Erin was also a lovely part of our evening, thank you for everything!

4. Rouge

Address: 1240 8 Avenue SE
Contact: (403) 531-2767 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday–Sunday: 5:00 PM–10:00 PM
Knowing where your vegetables were grown adds comfort to a meal, and Rouge achieves that by harvesting produce from their on-site garden.
Led by Chef Dylan Bretecher, the kitchen crafts a culinary narrative inside a Victorian farmhouse in Inglewood.
Their six-course Chef’s Tasting Experience costs $125 per guest and takes diners through a progression inspired by prairie wilderness and wild harvests.
Optional wine pairings accompany each dish, making this six-course journey a contender for foodies seeking deep flavour combinations.
Even better, the setting feels intimate, making this spot a top pick for milestone anniversaries or executive dining.
One thing to note: they require full-table participation for the tasting experience, which can limit dining options if someone in your party prefers a single plate.
The tasting menu which was superb, standouts were the salmon and beef
Treated ourselves for a special occasion and Rouge did not disappoint with warm, friendly, knowledgeable service. We chose the tasting menu which was superb, standouts were the salmon and beef tenderloin. Wine list was interesting with good value wines by the glass and a great selection by the bottle. Would highly recommend for a special treat, not cheap but still good value for what you get to enjoy.

The tasting menus are wonderful and literally anything from steak to fish
This is my partner and I’s favourite place for special occasions!! Employees are wonderfully kind and welcoming, outstanding service all throughout the night. Really delicious food at a really special place!!! The tasting menus are wonderful and literally anything from steak to fish to charcuterie or pasta on the regular menu never disappoints either. Beautiful ambience, love the immaculately kept grounds, we certainly have our favourite table and they’re kind enough to typically grant it to us!! Can’t wait to come back later this month for my partner’s birthday!!!!

5. The Continental Restaurant

Website: https://www.continentalyyc.ca/
Address: 1131 Kensington Road NW
Contact: (587) 319-6776 | [email protected]
Hours: Wednesday–Thursday & Sunday: 5:00 PM–9:00 PM; Friday–Saturday: 5:00 PM–10:30 PM
The Continental Restaurant brings a French-inspired touch to Calgary’s dining scene, combining classic European cooking techniques with flavours from around the world.
The restaurant offers six-, nine-, and twelve-course chef’s tastings, while its five-course option starts at $105 per person. This gives diners a nice middle ground between a shorter meal and a more elaborate experience.
The wine pairings also complement the rich French sauces and careful preparation of each dish, adding to the overall experience.
Plus, guests who aren’t keen on a multi-course meal can still order from the full à la carte menu, so everyone has more flexibility at the table.
The main drawback is the time commitment, as the nine- and twelve-course menus can take quite a while to enjoy.
We appreciated every single course
Enjoyed a wonderful 7 course tasting menu with my Canadian friends. We appreciated every single course. Squid ink pasta with sable fish, tender braised lamb and sticky toffee pudding were amongst our favorites. Flavors, textures and presentation are top-notch. Highly recommend.
