Thorough evaluation, progress comparison

“I had a great experience with Bonavista Physical Therapy. Merrylee took the time to do a thorough evaluation of my issues and to develop a starting benchmark against which we can compare my progress. She also explained the rationale behind her proposed program. I was very impressed and look forward to working with her to improve my mobility and reduce my chronic pain issues.”—Don Haley

Exceptional patient care, customer service, and environment

“Exceptional treatment with care and compassion.  The reception is so helpful in trying to get you in as soon as they can. Such a relaxing and private environment.  Never did I feel like my privacy was invaded as it can be in other physio clinics. I am so glad I found them. Thank you for making me feel better and able to move forward after suffering from a bad BPPV attack.”—Coraline Du

Professional and friendly staff

“Staffs are professional and friendly. They always ask you how you feel and check your progress from the last visit. They also give you some exercises to practice when you go home to accelerate the healing progress. I will recommend anyone who need physiotherapy to come and visit with them for a smooth and better live in the future.”—Simon Kwan

Holistic treatment

“I have so benifited from Brentwood Physio and their care. It is the first physiotherapy location were I was treated holisticlly and not just give excercises to practice in my session. I’ve benifited from both dry needling and ultrasound. When I began 2 months ago I could hardly move my arm, and work was very difficult. I can now move my arms with greater ease and mobility. I’ve never recieved such great treatment from physiotherapy as I have at Brentwood Physio!”—Crystal McElroy

Since 1991, Kensington Physiotherapy & Acupuncture Clinic has practiced physiotherapy, acupuncture, and custom orthotics. These services aim to help Calgarians with sports injuries, emotional problems, and orthopedic conditions alike.

For its physiotherapy services, Kensington does orthopedic and sports PT as well as vestibular rehabilitation.

To maximize recovery, the clinic also pairs PT with either acupuncture, orthotics, and even hypnotherapy—whichever is best. Kensington’s services also include preventive therapy and education.

However, know that these services are divided among Kensington Clinic’s small team of three PTs. This divided attention may be the reason why we’ve heard complaints about the clinic’s quality of treatments and customer service.

In addition to this con, we found that booking an appointment with Kensington can only be done by calling the clinic. Before booking an appointment, also make sure you have free weekdays as it’s only open on weekdays until 6 PM.

Pros

  • Holistic treatment plans
  • Preventive therapy treatments
  • All-around wellness clinic

“Gord and his team offer high-quality therapy and make you feel welcome and important at their clinic. They take the time to understand the scope of the problem and go above and beyond to treat the entire issue(s). Therapists and staff are friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend Kensington Physiotherapy & Acupuncture Clinic.”—Jennifer Alexander

Thorough assessment, combination of home stretching and clinic treatments

“Saw Gord for a thoracic nerve impingement. He assessed me thoroughly, diagnosed the problem, immediately started treatments which included home stretching/exercises and in-clinic treatments. Throughout the time he was a pleasure to talk to, provided me constant updates on my progress and trajectory, and advanced my home exercises as was appropriate for my progress. It was easy to get in for urgent appointments when issues arose, and he was happy to tell me when I didn’t need to come back for more treatments.

I have subsequently referred friends and patients to this clini”—Dan Lane

Focused, professional, helpful

“Renee Toxopeus helped me so much. I pulled my hamstring in mid-January and got an appointment for an hour after it happened (amazing!) with Renee. She was focused, professional, and helpful; her combinations of heat, massage, dry needling (surprisingly effective!) and electrical stimulation really helped with the pain and sped up the healing; she gave me easy-to-follow instructions for home – which actually worked – and had me back up on a snowboard very quickly. Highly recommended!”—Alethea Wiesner

Top-notch communication, explains diagnosis and treatment

“Had the opportunity to be a patient of Rebecca the Physical Therapist. She was fantastic for the few weeks I was seeing her. Top notch communication skills explaining her diagnosis and the rational for her treatment in layman’s terms. Importantly, she’s a very hands on / manual physical therapist – never pushing for fancy machine based treatment modalities. She created a great home pain control regime for me with app of the techniques recorded so I could review at home. She also provided dry needling on my first visit which was fantastic relief from the injury pain. She also got be back into my normal routine without needing several hundred appointments. Will be returning again with my next sports injury.”—Garry Bertier

Thorough assessments, varied exercises

“I had a friend recommend going to Move to Move for Physio and I have not been disappointed. I started seeing Carlie Rompre last year after I dislocated my shoulder and have been very happy with our physio sessions. She is throrough in her assessment and takes the time to explain what is happening and provides lots of different exercises and stretches to complement the treatment. She is my go to physiotherapist in Calgary!”—Amy MacCulloch

“When it comes to customer service they also go above and beyond for their clients. They also direct bill to a plethora of insurance companies. I have had the great pleasure of working with Jonathan (Physiotherapist)  for my injuries. He has extensive knowledge in regard to anatomy, physiology and sports injuries. He listens and tries to help you as much as he can. What I most appreciate about them is that he takes the time to search for the root cause of the injury, rather than only focusing on my pain areas. I also love that you get to work with the Physio for the treatments and a Kinesiologist for the exercise portion. A lifesaver, leaves no stone unturned

“Absolutely awesome place!! If you are in pain this is where you need to go ASAP! Physiotherapist David has been such a life saver in helping me with my back and hip issues that are over 6 years old..he is actually helping me to live with less pain while working to find the root of where it’s coming from and really delving into it leaving no stone unturned! I finally have hope for the first time in years, I cannot express how grateful I am that I found Strive & David! Thank you from the bottom of my heart”—Lisa McLeod

Immensely helpful, fast results

“Strive has helped me immensely with my back pain issues.  I’d gone to see my doctor for lower back pain and he said I needed an MRI and an injection.  Before trying any of that I went to Strive and had massage from Amanda and physiotherapy from Dave.  After only one treatment each I got at least 60-70% of my mobility back and wasn’t in constant pain anymore.  After 3 treatments each I’m pretty much at 100%. I went from moving and feeling like an 80 year old man to being able to be active again without any pain.  I can’t say enough good things about both Amanda and Dave!”—Tony

To book a free consultation, request a quote, or schedule a first PT session, one can simply answer Competitive Edge’s online forms. Aside from areas of concern, these forms even ask for the preferred time and date.

Customer Reviews

Excellent instruction and exercise plans

“I have been working with Eryn from Competitive Edge for about five sessions on a bum shoulder (not the technical term, I’m told). She has transformed me from a pained, hunched man into a wood chopping, golf swinging specimen! I followed her excellent instruction and exercise plan and am feeling much better. I’ve still got a bit to go but will tackle the future with more confidence in my shoulder and more confidence in humanity. Thanks Eryn and thank you Competitive Edge for having therapists like Eryn on your amazing staff!”—Tommy Fenlon

Competent with assessment and treatment

“I have been going to Competitve Edge on and off for 2 years now for both new and old physical issues. In each case I found the physiotherapists knowledgeable and competent in their assessments and treatments. They are great at supplying targeted exercises and following up. In each case pain has been eased and mobility improved considerably.

I recommend Competitive Edge without reservation to friends and family and will continue to do so. Thanks for the relief!”—Kennan Simpson

OPERATING HOURSMonday – Thursday: 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Friday: 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM

PT Kinetics offers both massage therapy and physical therapy for clients in need of added help for recovery or pain relief.

Its five PTs even have other certifications. So the clinic can also do acupuncture, dry needling, manual therapy, spinal manipulation, and functional movement assessments.

The clinic also offers physio sessions for the treatment of motor vehicle accident injuries. For convenient scheduling, PT Kinetics has online forms that clients can use to choose a service, a physiotherapist, and a schedule.

PT Kinetics is also transparent as it has its pricing scheme posted on its physiotherapy page. From the prices page, we’ve also learned that the clinic offers discounts and special prices for senior citizens.

We also find it special that PT Kinetics guarantees that each session only lasts 30 minutes. This gives even time-constrained customers a chance to free just a few minutes in their schedule for their health.

However, this can also be a disadvantage, especially to other people who need more than a few minutes of treatment. To add to this con, PT Kinetics is only available on weekdays, luckily up to 8 PM on most days.

Pros

  • Strict adherence to scheduling and session duration
  • Transparent pricing on its website
  • Senior discounts
  • Extended opening hours
  • Ability to choose PT in online forms

Cons

  • Time-restricted sessions
  • Closed on weekends

Always helped with healing, friendly clinic

Everyone in the office is super friendly and so accommodating to whatever needs arise.  Everyone truly cares about you and your well being. There truly is no other place we would recommend more than PT Kinetics!”—Jamie and Shelley DeLong

Clean clinic, friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable physiotherapists

“I would consider myself a mountain athlete and as such I push my body to the limits and sometimes beyond.  The beyond part happens more often than not.  I have recently started working with Quinn Turner at Fix Physio. Can’t say enough good things about the clinic and Quinn.  The clinic is clean, friendly and feels very open and welcoming.  The staff are always friendly and courteous.  If you’re a mountain athlete and are in need of a physio therapist who understands the mountains and what is required physically to stay safe out there, then you need to visit Quinn.  Not only is he a knowledgeable and attentive clinician, he is also a mountain athlete himself, who performs at a very high level.  So he will work with you to get your body back to tip top so that you can get back in the game.!”—Travis Smutt

Friendly and professional staff

“Breanne had helped my shoulder pain significantly, having bursitis in 2 different spots in my shoulder and working as a nurse doing heavy lifting was making my life a pain, and now after a few months of Physio sessions here I have basically no pain and can live my life back to normal! She’s so knowledgeable and kind, the staff are all friendly and professional and the studio is clean and convenient! I have sent other friends here and they all love it as well! Highly recommend!!”—Jenna Grace

Highly educated professionals, highest level of healing

“I can’t say enough good things about this amazing place of healing! Gina has surrounded herself with highly educated professionals that LOVE what they do! She’s created a space for the highest level of healing and you’ll see that as soon as you walk in.  I’ve been going to Gina as well as Kaitlin and Tegan for over two years now. I was in rough shape the first time I came in and after only a few treatments it was like I was in a new body! I highly recommend this clinic!”—Rees Matzner

Easy to speak with, understanding, explains the process

“This was my first experience into the world of Physiotherapy and could not have found someone better than Gina to get started with. She was easy to speak with, conversational but not bothersome, understanding and knowledgeable, and explained the process through each step (as I had many questions). The atmosphere of RST is modern, yet very calm and inviting. I am so glad that I found Restorative Sports Therapy and someone like Gina to address my pain and discomfort.”—Tyler Boschman

Pulse Physiotherapy is yet another of the youngest physiotherapy clinics in Calgary. Nonetheless, it has a team with the expertise and experience to cater to clients of all ages and of all conditions and concerns.

As a multidisciplinary clinic, Pulse also does massage therapy and acupuncture as well as nutritional counselling and coaching. With these services, the clinic can help its clients maintain their progress from PT sessions.

We also find Pulse accessible as its open six days a week, sometimes even as late as 8 PM. However, compared to other clinics, Pulse does open its doors rather late.

To make treatment accessible for all, this clinic also features an online appointment form where you get to choose the duration of the physio session and a PT.

Do know that it has a relatively small team of practitioners, two of which are physiotherapists while the other two are massage therapists or acupuncture specialists.

Luckily, it has other redeeming factors such as free parking. In addition to all this, Pulse also does direct insurance billing.

Pros

  • Free parking
  • Direct insurance billing

Compassionate and personable, convenient location

“I would highly recommend Terra as a physiotherapist. I went to see her initially after surgery on my foot and have continued to see her regularly for a few other issues and maintenance.  She is very knowledgeable, compassionate, and very personable. The location by North Hill mall is also very convenient and I appreciate the free parking.”—Heather Pennett

Takes time to explain injury and treatment, makes clients feel comfortable

“Hannah was fabulous as a therapist. She took the time to explain my injury and how it would get treated. She did an amazing job of keeping me comfortable during the treatment and my wrist felt significantly better during and after the session. I would definitely encourage others to get Hannah’s help with their aches.”—Matthew Foss

Life ‘N Balance also does direct insurance billing to several insurance providers. Despite being complicated in an insurance sense, WCB and MVA claims are also accepted in the clinic.

We also like that its online forms show the cost of treatments and assessments, so you can plan ahead, financially. Patients can also choose the PT they want attending to their needs in the forms.

But like other clinics, Life ‘N Balance also has its limitations, particularly in its availability. We say this because the clinic only has two physiotherapists in its team and is closed on Sundays.

Among the things that Atrium Physiotherapy has retained are its kindness and welcoming ambience, as specified by its client reviews. This may be primarily because of the personalized treatments that solo practitioner, Hala Basily provides.

Quick and immense improvement, compassionate and straightforward PT

“I have been going to see Andrea for physio and not only is she great at what she does, my condition is improving quicker than expected. I came to her with a chronic neck/cervical spine pain that I’ve had for months hoping this was my last shot and fixing the issue (I had been going for chiro and massage regularly and they couldn’t seem to fix the problem) however I’m  2 treatments in and have noticed an immense change in my overall range of motion and well-being. She is straight to the point and will do whatever she can to bring you toward recovery. I find her to be extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. I am grateful that I was referred to this clinic and look forward to continuing my journey to full recovery here. Lastly, thanks to the front desk reception staff whom are so friendly and accommodating, you ladies are great!!”—Kay Waller

“Amazing service. I had Erin marshal as my phyisotherapist for a WCB incident. Erin was always on time, always professional, always happy to help. Erin helped massively in my recovery and I genuinely believe, I would not have recovered half as well without her help. Gentle but worth it

“I purchased a Groupon to try out Spice Wellness and was so happy that I did!  Wendy, Simon and Donald are fantastic and so helpful. I finally have core strength again and am finally getting definition, without being in severe pain. I also get massages there from Tamara and have been so happy with her care. Definitely worth trying if you have any health issues that prevent you from typical exercise!”—Julia Caldwell

“I love going to Spice Wellness; the staff and owners are so helpful and knowledgeable. There are a variety of WBV machines and programs, so you can do something different every day. Great guidance, instruction, and support

“All the staff at Fifth Avenue Physio, and especially Kelly, have  been absolutely amazing over the last 18 months. Kelly is kind and caring and provides great guidance, instruction and support. In working with her, I’ve returned to better health and movement after a major surgery and a ski injury that resulted in a broken bone. I’ve recently returned to see her again after another surgery as I know she’ll help me to get back on track.  I have full confidence in her abilities and would highly recommend her.”—Elizabeth Moore

360 BrainBody is yet another all-around clinic as it offers physiotherapy, chiropractic adjustments, osteopathic manual therapy, and acupuncture.

This clinic’s PTs provide rehabilitation for those with injuries due to MVAs or sports accidents and overuse. Some PTs also have a background in dance, which we find special among the many physiotherapy clinics in Calgary.

Additionally, it has pilates, meditation, and mindfulness classes to help its patients maintain results from their PT sessions, even when they’re at home.

Those who can’t visit the clinic can also benefit from 360 BrainBody’s telehealth consultations. Do know that these are only available for naturopathic and counselling consultations as well as pilates.

You can avail of 360 BrainBody’s services by first filling out its online forms. In these forms, you can choose your preferred schedule and Calgary physiotherapist.

We also like that 360 BrainBody has extended opening hours, opening as early as 7 AM and closing as late as 7 PM. It even has a whole day operation on Saturdays to cater to more patients.

Just know that the clinic has a small waiting area, leading to poor customer experience for some of its previous patients.

Pros

  • Holistic treatment plans
  • Extended opening hours
  • Accepts MVA-related cases
  • Expertise and experience with competitive athletes and dancers

Cons

  • Inadequate waiting area
  • Telehealth consultation is only limited to some services
  • Closed on Sundays

Customer Reviews

Always pleasant and accessible, tailored approach

“I have been seeing Mike for physiotherapy for the past few months and have received a wholistic and comprehensive assessment/treatment plan. It is always challenging to find a good physiotherapist and I would definitely recommend Mike, as he takes a different approach: more focus on functional movements, individual tailored assessment and alternative means to tackle complex issues. Mike has specifically helped me to address chronic lower back pain, hip and shoulder mobility and assessing my movement patterns. In terms of 360, admin staff are always pleasant, the space is open and parking is easily accessible (underground + free).”—Maria-Eve Turdel

Prescribes exercises, explains treatments and diagnosis

“I have complex and advanced knee instability following multiple surgeries and arthritic deterioration. I searched for a skilled physiotherapist for over a year and am very pleased with Rebecca Lee. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the physiotherapists at 360BrainBody were as qualified, but I have only seen Rebecca. She explained how my hip rotation caused muscle tension on both sides, leading to pain. I had never been told about that before, but it was true! She released the tension using intramuscular stimulation with accupuncture needles (optional, but more effective than massage) and prescribed exercises to loosen the muscles and correct my hip and femur rotation that actually feel good and fit in my busy schedule.”—Claire Gougeon

OPERATING HOURSMonday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM

With the ability to help with endurance, strength, coordination, and flexibility, Ability Physiotherapy is one of the best physiotherapy clinics in Calgary. This clinic does physiotherapy, dry needling, chiropractic, massage therapy, and electric stimulation.

Ability also does posture correction and ergonomic training to further prevent the onset of overuse injuries and chronic conditions.

Its physio services are not only for helping those recovering from orthopedic injuries or surgeries but also for those with vestibular conditions, sports-related conditions or injuries, and pelvic health issues like incontinence.

One of the things we find unique about Ability is that it has two locations Calgarians can visit. So, patients need only choose their preferred location, schedule, and physiotherapist all in Ability’s online forms.

However, you should know that the North and South locations share the same set of three physiotherapists. So, its capacity may still be limited.

Fortunately, both clinics close late and even have Saturday operating hours, although it opens later than most clinics.

Pros

  • Wide range of PT types
  • Ergonomic and posture training
  • Multiple locations in Calgary

Cons

“Highly recommend this place. Have been getting physiotherapy treatments from sukhjinder and his assistant Anaya and they’ve been doing such a great job helping me with my recovery. They are absolutely knowledgeable and professional and always make sure I feel comfortable. Knowledgeable, caring, helpful

“Krupal is amazing physiotherapist. She is knowledgeable, caring and helpful. She understands what you need or not. She helped me a lot with my back pain after my baby. I was not able to walk on first day when I came to the clinic but Krupal helped me with her therapy treatment to walk easily. I had such a wonderful experience during my therapy. I highly recommend this place and Krupal is the best.”—Amandeep Ghataure

Saturday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Stargate welcomes Calgarians with back, neck, and shoulder pain, whiplash, carpal tunnel syndrome, joint sprain and strain, rotator cuff, arthritis, and other musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Its doors are also open for those undergoing MVA and WCB claims.

As such, one can also expect Stargate to do direct billing to several insurance providers.

For a well-rounded recovery, Stargate’s PT combines the use of physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic, soft tissue release, and exercise programs. It’s also among the few clinics with certified Kinesio taping practitioners.

Stargate’s main PT also has a certification in lifestyle medicine, so he can provide lifestyle intervention to those with chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

But despite these promises of excellent treatment and care, the clinic has still received complaints regarding its reception staff.

To add to this con, Stargate may not be as flexible as you’d want them to because it has relatively late opening hours. Still, it’s open most days until early evenings.

If you’re looking forward to hiring Stargate’s PTs, you can simply answer its online contact forms. Your booking schedule and attending physiotherapist will depend on the clinic’s discretion.

Pros

  • Accepts MVA and WCB-related cases

Welcoming, professional, and experienced, makes things easier

“I have been in 2 MVA’s in the past year and a half (both not my fault). I was skeptical at first as many are. I was welcomed with warm open arms and after the first visit, my thoughts were changed immediately. They are very professional but most important, they are very experienced and knowledgeable. I was unable to see progression in other clinics and with only a few sessions at Stargate, the team combined their knowledge and I felt immediate positive results.  I would not change a step. Jones has helped me so much and with his treatments, got me back to my self faster and healthier than I would have one my own. Courtney made it so much easier to return to my regular routines with relaxation and great advice. Jazz has been a huge step in my progress. She has not only helped me with my current injuries, but helped me with my unrelated issues as well.”—Randy Wallington

Does remarkable job assisting patient rehabilitation

“This was an experience I’ll never forget.  From my car accident, I went through series of pain that limited my mobility that affected my daily routine and unable to work which lead to mental stress.  Working in a physical environment and having the thought if the pain would ever go away really rattled my mind.  But Stargate’s Clinic Director and Physical Therapist Mr. Jones Onigbinde, does a remarkable job on assisting to my rehabilitation since day one. His compassion and focus assured that I’m in good hands and on to a steady recovery.  That’s why I owe my deepest gratitude to Jones and to his colleagues, Ellyn Villaruel and Femi Aladeyelu of Stargate Physical Therapy.”—Russel Garcia

Thorough and detailed planning during pregnancy and postpartum

“So grateful to Christine Mac at Peak Health for providing care during pregnancy and postpartum. I’ve become a mega advocate for pelvic floor physio and believe all women can benefit from seeing Christine. She was able to provide a week-to-week plan for exercises and body awareness during pregnancy and rehab for the months following birth. Birthing a 10lb baby with no stitches and a prompt recovery was, no doubt, a credit to the work Christine and I did together. I used to think pelvic floor care was about doing kegals – I had a lot to learn and I will always appreciate taking the time to see Christine regularly.”—Christina Bartlett

Supportive, knowledgeable, and understanding

“Christine is an amazing, knowledgeable and caring physiotherapist. She planned the therapy for an issue that I was dealing with for years, and it went very well and exactly how was planned. During this progress, Christine was so supportive and understanding. Tried to comfort me, referred me to the right people and follow up. I really can’t recommend her enough. She absolutely made a difference in life! Thanks Christine for all you have done for me!”—Paniz Parsaie

Serving North Calgary for a few decades now, Northern Hills Sports Physiotherapy (NHSPT) provides one of the best physical therapy in Calgary. This clinic’s PT services include orthopedic, vestibular rehabilitation, sports, women’s health, neurological, and pediatric PT.

Such a wide range of PT practices is possible because NHSPT also has a large team of physiotherapists. Each of these PTs also has specializations and other areas of expertise such as IMS, dry needling, acupuncture, and even pilates.

NHSPT also caters to those with workplace-related and motor vehicle accident injuries. And luckily, the clinic does direct billing to most insurance providers, even to those involved in WCB and MVA claims.

However, you should know that Northern Hills’ treatment spaces are only separated by curtains and other boundaries. So, if you want absolute privacy during physio sessions, then this clinic may not be what you’re looking for.

Additionally, some customers complained about inconsistency in the quality of services.

At least, NHSPT still allows you to choose a therapist and a specific schedule in its forms. Its forms even display the projected costs per appointment.

Pros

  • Wide range of PT types
  • Accepts MVA and WCB-related cases
  • Extended opening hours
  • Direct insurance billing
  • Transparent pricing in online forms
  • Ability to choose PT in online forms

Cons

  • Some comments about the inconsistent quality of services

Fitness Canada Physio & Massage Centre may be an appropriate choice if you’re still looking for clinics with multiple locations in Calgary. Both its locations are also conveniently open until late evenings but, unfortunately, open later than others.

This clinic combines healing techniques from Canada and India. So, clients can receive PT, massage therapy, as well as yoga and Ayurvedic healing therapies.

Specifically, Fitness Canada Physio’s sessions provide relief and rehabilitation from injuries, post-surgery pain, TMJ and jaw problems, and vestibular conditions like vertigo and dizziness.

Unfortunately, the clinic only has one physiotherapist in its team. Luckily, this one PT also has a background in a variety of PT types and rehabilitation techniques.

We also find it fascinating that Fitness Canada Physio also has detailed and user-friendly online forms.

Despite these promises, the fitness centre has received complaints about its appointment schedules not being maximized. Some even talked about poor communication skills from the staff.

  • Multiple locations in Calgary
  • Holistic treatment plans

“I first saw Elliott a month prior to my spinal fusion surgery in order to establish a baseline for future treatment. I am highly active and physical fitness is not only my passion but my profession. Elliott worked with me post-surgery to gain back full function and strength. He helped accelerate my recovery which was just half the period I was told to expect.
