Slurp Your Way to Happiness with the Best Pho in Calgary from These Joints

I’ll never forget the day I encountered what can only be described as the Frankenpho of noodle soups. I was served a concoction that tasted like wet cardboard. I’m talking limp noodles, sad broth, and beef that looked like it was having an existential crisis.

But since then, I’ve had quite a few delicious bowls of pho around town. From bustling food markets to cozy family-run restaurants, I’ve discovered a world of flavors that put that tragic bowl of soup to shame.

So buckle up and grab your chopsticks, because I’m about to dish out all the juicy deets on the best pho spots in Calgary. We’re talking rich broth, perfectly chewy noodles, and fresh garnishes that will leave you slurping with satisfaction.

Tamarind Vietnamese Grill & Noodle House in Calgary stands out for its commitment to serving delicious and authentic vegan Vietnamese cuisine. It’s not easy to get that rich and hearty flavour without using meat, but they nailed it.

Their Pho Dac Biet (Tamarind House Special Noodle Soup) is a standout. The broth is packed with flavors, reflecting the care and time invested in it.

The mock beef, tofu, and Vietnamese “ham” add a unique texture to the dish. The Konjac strips and balls make every bite even more interesting.  The veggies are always fresh, and the rice noodles have that perfect bite to them.

Toss in the fresh bean sprouts, Vietnamese basil, and jalapeno, and you’ve got a bowl of pho that truly hits the spot.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking to try something different, get the Pho Ap Chao. It’s not your traditional pho, but the pan-fried rice noodles with tofu and veggie ham in their signature stir-fry sauce are game changers. Trust me, you’ll want to scrape the plate clean.

Pho 307’s pho is a standout, thanks to its rich and flavorful broth that leaves a lasting impression.

I tried the House Special Pho, which features a satisfying mix of rare beef, brisket, and beef balls. The rare beef was tender, the brisket added a nice meaty texture, and the beef balls brought it all together.

For those craving something more adventurous, the Vietnamese Beef Stew is hearty and filling. If you’re after something with a bit of a kick, the Hue Style Noodle Soup is spicy and full-bodied, perfect for chili lovers.

Pro Tip: Don’t skip the papaya salad. It’s fresh and crunchy and the perfect palate cleanser between bites of that gorgeous pho.

Pho City is known for serving generous portions of its unique pho flavors.

Their Pho Satay Lobster is a must-try. You get two huge, juicy lobster tails swimming in a rich,  satay broth packed with that irresistible peanut flavor. The lobster? Cooked to near perfection—tender and flavorful.

Then there’s the Pho Satay Beef Ribs. When I say these ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, I mean it. They’ve clearly simmered for hours because they soak up all the satay spices.

The noodles hit that sweet spot—neither too soft nor too chewy. And the garnishes? Fresh basil, crisp bean sprouts, lime wedges—they bring it all together for a pho experience you won’t forget.

Their Night Owl Special Noodle Soup is packed with rare beef, flank, tendon, tripe, and beef balls. It delivers a rich and meaty taste that’s hard to resist. Pair it with their dumplings, skewers, or fried chicken for an even more indulgent meal.

They also offer a Satay chicken noodle soup, which is equally delicious.

NGON 17 Vietnamese Kitchen is known for serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a royal flair.

I recently tried their Hue-Style Beef Vermicelli Soup. The broth is rich and slightly spicy, making you want to savor each spoonful. The flavors of lemongrass and chili shine through, hitting all the right notes.

The beef is melt-in-your-mouth good, while the vermicelli noodles maintain their texture without soaking up all the broth. They top it off with fresh herbs, crunchy bean sprouts, and a squeeze of lime that brightens everything up.

Pho 26 offers a unique twist by letting you bring your own pot, which they fill with delicious pho for you to enjoy at home.

I tried their Phở Tôm Chua Cay, or the Spicy Tomyum Shrimp Noodle Soup, it was fantastic. The broth had this perfect balance of spicy and sour, with just the right amount of heat that complements rather than overpower the other flavors.

The shrimp were plump and perfectly cooked—not rubbery at all. Each spoonful came with a zing of fresh lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves, which made the dish taste even better.

Another one you’ve got to try is their Phở Không (No-Meat Beef Noodle Soup). Even without meat, it’s actually pretty good. It comes with all the usual pho accompaniments – fresh basil, bean sprouts, lime wedges, and those thinly sliced onions.

Pro Tip: If you’re visiting with your kids, check out their special kid’s meal. It has just the right portion size, featuring flank beef and beef balls. It’s also served with a POP.

If you want to create your own pho, check out Pho Han Vietnamese Noodle House.

When I go, I go all in with tendon, tripe, and meatballs. I also sometimes add in some brisket and AAA-sliced sirloin. They pair well with spicy soup broth, which adds a nice kick without overshadowing the rich, beefy goodness.

I like to throw in a mix of vegetables, along with bean sprouts, green onions, and cilantro for the perfect balance of freshness and flavor. You can also add pulled chicken, and extra noodles, and even top it off with a fried egg.

Pro Tip: If you’re doing takeout, they have a buy one, get one free deal for the well-done beef noodle soup and real banana strawberry smoothie. It’s perfect for when you want to indulge and save some bucks.

A bowl of pho at Pho Huydat Vietnamese Noodle House is where you go for good, solid comfort food.

In their House Special Beef Rice Noodle Soup, they don’t skimp on the beef—it’s loaded with brisket and rare slices, so you’re never short on the good stuff. They top it off with fresh onions and cilantro for added flavor.

If you’re a fan of peanut satay, go for the Rare Beef Peanut Satay version. And for those who like a bit more variety, the “HUE” style beef rice noodle soup has everything from round noodles to Vietnamese ham.

The pho at Pho Daddy is something else! Their bone broth is remarkable, delivering deep, rich flavors that are simply unforgettable.

I usually go for the beef pho because they use premium sliced meat that’s tender and flavorful. They also toss in green and white onions, beansprouts, and a bunch of fresh herbs that add this incredible freshness to each bite. The lime and chilies also add extra zing to the pho.

If you’re feeling particularly hungry, they offer options for extra meat, noodles, or veggies. You can load up your bowl just how you like it.

Pro Tip: They’ve got this coconut soup base that’s really worth trying out if you want your pho to be creamy.

Pho Hoai is a relaxed, down-to-earth Vietnamese eatery offering noodles and spring rolls.

If you’re ever in the mood for something hearty but still full of fresh and bright flavors, their pho should be on your list. Their Pho Chin Nam Gau Gan Sach has it all: well-done flank, tripe, tendon, and brisket. Each cut of beef added its own unique texture and flavor.

The noodles don’t soak up all the goodness from the broth, either. To top it off, they serve it with fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil, and lime.

Pro Tip: They’ve got a fantastic vegan pho too—same awesome broth vibes, minus the meat.

Bolsa Restaurant is where you go for quick and satisfying Vietnamese food. Their Satay Shrimp Rice Noodle Soup and Medium Rare Beef Pho are amazing.

Both of these soups aren’t overpowering but are still rich and incredibly flavorful. The rice noodles aren’t too soft either.

No matter what pho you order here, they give you a plate of fresh basil leaves, cilantro, bean sprouts, and lime on the side, allowing you to customize your bowl tp your taste.

Pro Tip: If you want something different, give their curry chicken stew—it’s the chef’s special!

Pho 99 has everything from classic pho to flavorful vermicelli bowls and rice plates.

When I’m craving pho, I get their House Special Beef Pho. It’s filled with rare beef, brisket, and beef balls. It even has tripe and tendon too! I’d suggest adding a squeeze of lime and a few jalapenos for an extra kick.

If they’re all out of their house special, my fallback is their seafood noodle soup. It’s packed with shrimp, squid, and crab. The broth is just as rich and perfectly complements the fresh seafood.

Pro Tip: Start with their appetizer platter. The deep-fried pork spring rolls and those beef skewers make it hard not to get full before the pho comes out.

13. Rau Bistro: Vietnamese Street Food

Rau Bistro is popular for its unique take on Vietnamese street food. Phở bò đặc biệt—their special beef pho—is hands-down one of the best I’ve had.

The bowl is filled with sliced beef, beef balls, and tendon meat. They swim in a rich broth that perfectly balances savory and sweet deep beefy flavors. Now that’s good pho!

I also often add their spicy peanut satay sauce and steamed veggies to further elevate the dish. Plus, they’ll gladly hook you up with a side of broth if you’re one of those people who like to customize to the max.

Pro Tip: Get their house-brewed iced hibiscus and lychee drink if you want something refreshing and a little bit sweet. If you end up staying for dessert, try a slice of their baked honeycomb cake.

Phone: +1 (403) 313-9509

Price: 10 to 20 CAD

Song Huong Vietnamese Restaurant has a variety of traditional Vietnamese dishes, but it’s their pho that keeps me coming back.

One of my favourites is the Pho Dac Biet, which is loaded with sliced rare beef, flank, and tendon. They also add in tripe and beef balls for an even meatier taste.

You know how some places can’t get the texture right? Not here. The beef is melt-in-your-mouth tender, and their beef balls are so flavorful!

Other than this, they also offer other types of pho. Their Pho Ga Chien comes with a crispy yet juicy chicken, while their Pho Do Bien is a winner if you’re into seafood. It comes with shrimp, squid, and fish.

Pro Tip: Try their Bun Bo Hue. It’s not pho, but it’s their signature dish for a reason. It features tender beef shank, savory Vietnamese ham, and flavorful pork meatballs. It also comes with a daring addition of blood pudding cubes.

Pho Xinh Xinh is where you go for tasty and budget-friendly pho.

The Xinh Xinh Special Beef Noodle Soup is packed with various meat, including rare beef, brisket, and tendon. The broth had that deep, rich taste you get from hours of simmering.

If you like seafood, their satay seafood noodle soup has a nice little kick from the satay sauce.

But if you want something more original, their satay chicken noodle soup is not too bad.

Pro Tip: Pair your pho with their avocado milkshake. It’s creamy and a bit sweet. It definitely helps digest their pho if your order is a bit too spicy for you.
