For a while, I thought it was inescapable. After one long all-nighter left me collapsed in bed for almost a whole day, my friends finally helped me go look into osteopaths in Calgary to hopefully get me some relief. What do you know? It worked!

I’ve got a hike planned with some friends, and with some of us struggling with some joint pains recently I figured we could do another round to check out new clinics. After weeks of looking around, here are some of our favorite picks to give a call!

We’d be pretty remiss not to mention Solid Roots Osteopathy, especially within the Calgary area. This clinic got a reputation among locals as a good starting point for patients looking into osteopathy, and we just had to see why.

Right off the jump, we were pleased with the clinic. The whole space was kept quite hygienic. Some patients also mentioned their equipment and rooms being similarly well-maintained.

Their treatments, once we got to view them, were quite varied as well. They’re best known for manual osteopathy, but we also noted specialized treatments like acupuncture, visceral manipulation, and craniosacral treatments too.

We were also relieved to hear pretty good things about the treatment. Most patients we spoke with reassured us that the treatments remained painless and relaxing.

We also appreciate how accommodating the team is with requests, especially if it helps with the treatment. If you have a particular problem area you want handled, you can try bringing it up to them.

That said, we do have to note that the prices of their services could be quite high, even if you’re just booking an initial assessment.

Pros

  • Comfortable and relaxing treatments
  • Very accommodating of customer requests
  • Clean and well-maintained clinic space

Cons

  • Higher prices for services

Did you know that a popular audience for osteopathy is families, especially new parents? We got to find that out when quite a number of new mothers pointed us over to Alpine Osteo, especially for those looking into treatments for their little ones.

The clinic offers a range of treatments for conditions such as arthritis and sports injuries. But what we especially appreciated were the offerings for postpartum pain and pregnancy issues.

On top of that, Alpine Osteo even offers lighter treatments for infants and children to relieve stomach issues and growing pains. A few parents even let us know that the treatments could help correct posture problems before they became a habit.

We also love how thorough the consultations are. The team reportedly provides as much information as possible to help patients better understand their diagnosis and treatment.

A few regulars also mentioned the clinic having a pretty large staff, making it a little easier to schedule consultations and sessions. Patients can also easily swap practitioners if they encounter an issue with their current one.

That said, patients mentioned that requesting a specific practitioner can be quite difficult.

Pros

  • Reliable treatments for younger patients
  • Professional and informative consultations
  • Wide variety of practitioners

Cons

  • Difficulty requesting a specific practitioner

Helped me to understand the underlying causes

“This was my first Osteo appointment, and Elodie was extremely helpful. She explained the inner workings of my shoulder that’s been bugging me, and it helped me to understand the underlying causes for the pain.”

– Mr. Ryan Frampton, Google Review

Worked quickly on my son while letting me know what he was doing

“Ben was kind and easy to talk to and he worked quickly on my son while letting me know what he was doing and why. Although it’s only been 24 hrs – I have already noticed a difference in how my son is eating.”

– Ms. Kirby Ryan, Google Review

Body pains can sneak up on just about anyone. While they might be more pronounced as you get older, even a minor slip can bring serious discomfort. That’s why it’s not surprising that Ellipse Therapy became such a popular clinic among Calgary locals.

It’s truly an all-ages clinic. They provide treatments for children, young adults, adults, and even seniors.

Their range of treatments wasn’t anything to scoff at either. Their osteopathic therapies addressed various body imbalances. These include realigning the spine, deep tissue massage, and other areas that may be limiting movement.

Patients we spoke with also highlighted the treatment plans. These could be arranged and personalized according to the patient’s medical history and needs, with each step and treatment clearly outlined for family and guardians to review.

We also love that treatments are generally non-invasive. We also find this pretty handy for younger patients who are still developing their immune system and balance.

That said, patients advised us to settle in for a wait after booking a treatment. Quite a few mentioned facing long waiting times between their initial assessment and the day of the service, so keeping a clear schedule is recommended.

Pros

  • Reliable non-invasive treatment plans
  • Wide range of ages supported
  • In-depth and transparent treatment plans

Cons

  • Long waiting time to get scheduled

“Antoine is a dedicated practitioner and was excellent with my baby! He talked through the treatment to ensure I understood what he was doing and provided good insight and information as he went along in his treatment.”

– Ms. Elizabeth Milino, Google Review

If you’ve ever needed osteopathy or even physiotherapy in Calgary, there’s a chance you might have heard about Encompass Holistic Health. The clinic was a particular hotspot for locals seeking relief from bodily pain, so we had to swing by to see.

Their variety of treatments was almost intimidating at first glance. Their offerings spanned a range of physiotherapy and osteopathy treatments, from basic massages and chiropractic care to shockwave therapy and acupuncture.

We love how streamlined the booking process is. Requesting a practitioner and arranging a treatment schedule reportedly took only a few minutes, which is definitely a plus in our book.

We also appreciate how thorough the team is in arranging a schedule that works with the patient’s schedule, as well as any caregivers’ schedules.

We also couldn’t help but notice the larger team, all specializing in various treatments. Patients mentioned being free to consult specific practitioners for their treatment, so we think this can help with more nervous first-time patients.

One thing we did notice was that it can be difficult to find their physical clinic. With four locations around Calgary, we had trouble finding the right one that offers osteopathic treatment.

Pros

  • Wide variety of specialists for different treatments
  • Transparent and easy to follow schedule
  • Quick and easy booking process

Cons

  • Difficult location of clinic

The aptly named Equilibrium Osteopathy drew us in when locals praised their accessibility, so we couldn’t resist dropping by to see what was up.

Their services were pretty thorough when we reached out to ask. They offered various treatments targeting specific body areas, such as the upper body and pelvis. We also noticed full-body assessments and plans available.

We took the chance to ask regulars about what drew them to the clinic, and the team’s flexibility with patients’ medical conditions was a highlight. The team adjusted plans according to their comfort levels, accommodating any existing mobility issues and more.

Many patients were also happy to let us know that Equilibrium’s treatments were quite reliable, with some feeling results as quick as a few sessions in.

On the other hand, we noticed that the team was quite limited, with only a few practitioners available at the time. This can be pretty tricky when requesting a specialist for your treatment.

That being said, patients praised the clinic for being pretty quick despite the limited team, with booking and scheduling appointments and sessions. We’d definitely keep this clinic in mind for patients looking for a good starting point to osteopathy.

Pros

  • Reliable treatments for pain relief
  • Good accessibility for patient conditions
  • Quick booking and scheduling

Cons

  • Limited practitioners available

Able to guide her through each movement with ease

“My daughter sees Cole, and he has been wonderful with her. She is blind, and he’s able to guide her through each movement with ease. Since working with him, she’s been feeling so much better.”

– Mr. Justyn Milman, Google Review

He’s working to solve the actual ROOT of the problem

“He’s working to solve the actual ROOT of the problem (which, big surprise, isn’t the shoulder itself) instead of just treating symptoms. I can finally sleep without Tylenol/Advil and I’m not dying to apply my electric hot pad.”

– Ms. Laura Tuff, Google Review
