When it comes to Mediterranean food, Calgary is never lagging behind. Although we do love our fried chicken and BBQ joints, our city is also dotted with some of the most awesome restaurants from around the world.

That said, as your local guide, nothing brings me more pride than sharing some of my favorite places. A lot of these spots I’ve experienced with family, and have soon joined my list of go-tos whenever the Mediterranean calls me.

Damascus Fine Mediterranean Foods is a food spot that my family and I stumbled upon, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. From the moment we walked in, the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service made us feel right at home.

We ordered the falafel wraps and were blown away by the generous portions. The combination of hummus, tahini, and fresh ingredients made every bite a flavorful experience.

The chicken shawarma platter was another hit. It was perfectly seasoned and juicy. We especially loved the garlic sauce—it’s seriously addicting and complemented everything on our plates.

Paros Real Greek offers some of the best Mediterranean food in Calgary. The casual and welcoming vibe made us feel at ease when we stepped in, as if we were about to enjoy something special.

I ordered the chicken gyro plate, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, and the fresh pita paired with the roasted Mediterranean vegetables was a winning combination.

My partner tried the lamb plate, and we both couldn’t stop raving about it. The lamb was tender and flavorful, falling apart with every bite – it truly felt like Mediterranean comfort food.

We also got the Spanakopita, which was crisp, fresh, and packed with flavor. It was so good that sharing it became a bit of a challenge!

Orchard Restaurant was a fantastic spot for a Mediterranean-inspired meal with my partner. The moment we walked in, we were struck by the cozy yet modern ambiance—it’s beautifully decorated and very welcoming.

I ordered the duck breast, which was perfectly cooked – moist, juicy, and paired with flavorful vegetables. My partner tried the bucatini, which was rich and saucy. It’s perfect for those who love pasta with a kick of Mediterranean flavor.

For dessert, we indulged in a treat that truly made the evening special. Every bite was mouthwatering, and we left feeling satisfied and eager to return for more!

Kama was an unexpected delight when I decided to try it out for a weekend dinner. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the warm, stylish decor that made the place feel cozy and inviting.

Every dish had a unique twist that made the flavors exciting, especially the grilled halloumi and the spanakopita, which were both outstanding.

The service was fantastic, with the server being friendly and attentive without ever rushing me. The food came out quickly, and the Potato Gnocchi with burrata was so rich and flavorful that it became an instant favorite.

Falafel King is an absolute must-visit for anyone craving Mediterranean food in Calgary. My family and I stopped in while exploring downtown, and we were blown away by both the food and the friendly atmosphere.

I ordered the chicken shawarma platter, and the portion was so generous that I almost couldn’t finish it – almost! The chicken was juicy and packed with flavor, perfectly balanced with fresh veggies and creamy hummus.

I also couldn’t resist the falafel wrap, and it was just as delicious. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and loaded with all the best toppings, it was a real standout.

The staff here are so welcoming and kind, making us feel like regulars on our first visit. We’ll definitely be back to try the beef donair and, of course, more of that amazing baklava!

Mazaj Mediterranean Cuisine was a wonderful spot for a family meal, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience. 

Both the mixed platter and the chicken shawarma we tried were packed with flavor. The shawarma had a perfect balance of spices, and the portion sizes were more than generous.

The beef donair was another highlight, with crispy edges and tender meat that just melts in your mouth. We also loved how fresh the sides were, especially the hummus and tabbouleh, which complemented the meal perfectly.

The service was warm and attentive, even with just one person handling the orders. Plus, it’s great to know everything is halal!

Mazaj Mediterranean Cuisine is hands down one of the best spots for shawarma in Calgary! The restaurant was clean, and the service was excellent, making our visit a pleasant experience.

I ordered the mixed platter and the chicken shawarma plate, and I was amazed by the portion sizes. The meat was bursting with flavor, far from the bland shawarmas you sometimes find; every bite was a treat!

My friends were especially thrilled with the extra shawarma bites, and they couldn’t get enough of the creamy white sauce. It added just the right touch, making their meal even more enjoyable.

Jerusalem Shawarma on Richmond Road is an amazing spot for Mediterranean food. The portions are incredibly generous – I had enough for three meals, but every bite was delicious. 

I tried the chicken shawarma, and it was packed with flavor, thanks to the fresh toppings. The garlic sauce had just the right amount of kick, and the sweet sauce added a lovely touch. I also loved the garlic potatoes and refreshing Ayran yogurt drink. 

While I waited about 15 minutes for the grilled items, it was well worth it because the kebabs were juicy and perfectly grilled. Plus, they surprised us with free baklava with our order, which was a delightful treat! 

The staff here are some of the sweetest people you’ll meet, always friendly and hardworking.

Jerusalem Shawarma on Richmond Road quickly became a favorite for my family and me. With a fantastic variety of menu options, including plenty of vegetarian choices, there’s something for everyone.

We ordered the chicken and beef kebab platters, and I was thrilled with the generous portions. Everything was perfectly cooked, from the tender meat to the roasted potatoes. Plus, the sides of hummus, garlic sauce, and tzatziki really elevated the meal.

The restaurant is also always spotless, making for a pleasant dining experience every time we visit.

Pita Grill is my go-to spot for Mediterranean food in Calgary. From the moment I walked in, the friendly staff made me feel right at home, and I knew I was in for a treat.

I tried the donair and kebab, and I can honestly say they are among the best I’ve ever had. The quality of the ingredients is outstanding, and every bite felt like a flavor explosion. 

Their donair poutine is a must-try; it’s rich and delicious, making it a fun twist on a classic. Plus, the generous portions mean I always leave satisfied and happy.

I love that the staff takes pride in their work because their warmth adds to the overall experience. Plus, the points card that rewards visits make me want to come back for more!

Jimmy’s A&A is a hidden gem that truly impresses! I had the Beef Donair, and it was the best I’ve ever tasted—bursting with flavor and perfectly seasoned.

The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to help me when I couldn’t pay right away due to my card being paused. They encouraged me to eat first and sort out payment later, which is such amazing service that you just don’t find in chain restaurants

Besides the delicious food, they also have a great selection of groceries and baked goods. The variety of drinks is impressive, making it a perfect spot for a quick meal or a grocery run.

I ordered the shawarma poutine, and let me tell you, it was a generous portion filled with perfectly seasoned shawarma meat, fresh veggies. And the sausages are just out of this world!

My partner ordered a mix of beef and chicken shawarma wraps along with a Kafta beef kebab platter. Everything was fresh and hot. The local juice also adds a fun touch to our meal!

Shawarma Barlow is a hidden gem that made my taste buds dance with joy! As I watched my order being prepared, I couldn’t help but feel excited – especially when I saw the Chicken Fusion Fries and the Mixed Meat platter come together beautifully!

I first tried their Kafta plate a while back, and it was unforgettable. The hummus was so smooth that even my sibling, who usually skips it, loved it. The kafta was perfectly charred with fragrant spices that inspired me to try making it at home (though my attempt was a total fail!).

On my latest visit, I couldn’t resist the kafta wrap and their new donair burger. The wraps were bursting with juicy meat, fresh veggies, and just the right kick from the sauces, making it a perfect meal to enjoy.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who made sure everything was just right. If you’re in the mood for delicious shawarma, this place is an absolute must-visit.
