Summit Martial Arts is a martial arts school that’s been voted as the top one in Calgary consistently since 2017. They offer classes for beginners to advanced black belts and accept all ages starting from 4 years old.
Their facilities are also really decent with a lot of space to practice. It’s been described as well-organized and one that follows COVID-19 protocols strictly.
They have 4 different programs: Little Monkeys for ages 4-5, Little Dragons for ages 6-8, Beginners Class for ages 9 and above, and Intermediate/Advanced Class for green belts and above.
The best way to get in contact with them for inquiries or registrations is through email. You can sign up for their classes online too.

One thing we really like about this school is that they work closely with the parents as well. This is to make sure that both instructors and parents are able to address the student’s specific needs.
They follow a pretty rigorous standard for the belt promotion criteria which we think is really important especially for those who really want to pursue martial arts. This helps them help the students really push themselves and reach their full capacity.

Provides best training and experience, celebrates successes, quick and effective care
“My kids have been with Summit Martial Arts for the last 3 years. Over this time, it has been a wonderful place for them to celebrate their successes after working hard to achieve their goals, as well as a place for them to learn the values of perseverence and good sportsmanship. Since the pandemic, I have watched them quickly and effectively pivot and adjust to the ever changing restrictions. I have never felt uncomfortable with bringing my children to class. It is obvious how much Mrs. Morris and Master Morris care about providing a safe environment for their students, while also continually working to provide their students with the best training and experience.” -Vania
Knowledgeable instructors
“Awesome instruction, knowledgeable and you earn your belts. Follows COVID-19 government mandated protocols. Feel safe in their facility.” -Tyler
3. Elite Martial Arts Academy
Criteria | Rating |
Programs offered | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Facilities | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
Availability | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Elite Martial Arts Academy offers a traditional way of teaching martial arts in a modern environment which we think is really important in helping people develop the skills they need. It was voted as the top martial arts school by ThreeBestRated in 2019.
Their focuses are on Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. For Muay Thai, they teach kids, teens, and adults while they only take on adults for Jiu-Jitsu.
Their kids and teens classes accept students of 4 to 14 years old. Their aim is to help your child develop their motor skills, agility, and learn all about self-defense.
However, they don’t mention the duration of the classes for kids and teens so be sure to ask about that. They also don’t offer any free trial.
For adult Muay Thai and adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the classes run for an hour and 15 minutes. We like that they take on anyone from beginners to those who are well-versed in the sport so everyone has a chance of learning it properly.
They have two branches: one in Southwest Calgary and one in Southeast Calgary. This makes them accessible to a larger group of students who are interested in martial arts.
The school itself isn’t that big but, with the limited number of students taken in per class, the size is still pretty decent. The facilities are described by students as clean and well-maintained.
You can easily get access to their class schedule by filling up the contact form on their website.

Studios Group Martial Arts Calgary offers classes to preschoolers, kids, and adults. They also offer family martial arts and are the only academy that offers an after-school martial arts fitness program.
We commend how they don’t require any long-term contracts for you to take classes with them. Instead, they work on monthly memberships to ensure that their students pursue the sport because they want to instead of out of obligation.
They have tons of different membership plans that range from $99-$900. These differ in age groups, belt levels, and the number of classes you can attend per week.
Now, one of our favorite things about this academy is that they offer a free trial week. This grants you 2 free classes for a week and is available to all new students.
We also find it very convenient that having a membership with them grants you access to their training videos, Live Stream classes, and more. This way, even if you’re too busy to attend their classes in person, you’ll still be able to train by yourself at home.

Amazing instructors, great supportive community
“Amazing people, I have no words to describe our gratitude for helping our boy learn how much he can accomplish if he is patient and work hard. They stood to our family and gave confidence to our boy to go through some challenging times. They teach patience, consistency, hard work, resiliency, kindness and discipline which are solid life skills for the children as they navigate life from toddlers, to teen years and adulthood. It’s a great supportive community which promotes morality and fairness. Thank you both, you are a blessing in our boy’s life!” -Katerina

Game and life changer for my son
“Affinity Academy has been a game and life changer for my son. The skills he learns are 100% transferable to life. His academics, confidence, respect for people, general outlook to situations improved drastically this year from the lessons and instruction from the coaches. The coaches genuinely CARE for the kids it’s so evident to see. We have struggled with a bully in school for the entire year and last week he approached the bully with confidence and the skills to shut it down without conflict. PROUD and thankful momma post” -Heather
Great gym, top-notch instruction
“I just did a drop-in class at Affinity when I was in town, but I would absolutely train here if I lived in Calgary. The gym is great, and Andell’s instruction is top-notch. I appreciate how he teaches BJJ on a conceptual/theory level at the same time as teaching the physical moves.” -Marc

Customer Reviews
Here are some reviews from their clients:
“I have been attending Kung Fu For Life since 2007. This studio provides comprehensive personalized training that allowed me to learn at my pace. I have experienced nothing but positive results. Grand Master Piercey and the curriculum that he has set out works for any type of person. This is my favourite quality of the Kung Fu For Life studio. The other is that it is non competitive training, which in turn allows a different level of comfort. Thank you Kung Fu For life for being awesome.” – Shane McKinnon
“The Art is a lot about personal mastery. The more I give to the art the more I receive. I came to learn self-defence and have been awarded other health and fitness benefits I never imagined. There’s a lot of philosophy in Kung Fu and the longer that I’m here the more that recognize how the practice changes my character for the better.” – Jeannette Sirois
