The 5 Best Eggs Benedict in Calgary for Brunch Bliss

Sauce: I tried the hollandaise sauce at each place, looking for a perfect balance—not too thick or too thin.

Eggs: I checked the poached eggs for doneness, seeking a runny yolk paired with firm and well-cooked whites.

Base: I paid attention to the English muffin for quality. I ensured it was toasted to a golden brown with just the right amount of crispness.

Overall Presentation: I considered the overall presentation of the dish, extra sides, the quality of the ingredients, and more.

My first (and last) attempt at homemade eggs Benedict was a kitchen nightmare.

The eggs were more sunny-side up than poached. My hollandaise tasted like…well, let’s just say it made me hold my stomach in pain.

But fortunately, I’m not the only one who’s struggled with this brunch classic.

Inspired by my own failed attempt and others’ woes, I’ve tasted my way through the city’s egg benny scene.

After trying several variations, I’ve narrowed it down to a few top contenders. So, here’s who made it onto my list of the best.

How much does it cost to get eggs Benedict in Calgary?

It costs at least 15 CAD to get a plate of eggs Benedict in Calgary. This is just an estimate. This price will vary depending on the restaurant and any additional toppings or sides.

The Bro’kin Yolk offers a unique twist on breakfast classics with a Filipino-inspired flair that sets them apart from your average brunch spot.

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt inviting and unhurried—perfect for savoring a good meal.

Their menu is a total treat, with fun options like breakfast poutine and a full egg benny bar. But what really stole the show for us was the bennies served with Belgian waffles and duck fat hash—pure indulgence on a plate.

The Chipotle Chicken Benedict is also a fan favorite, and it’s no surprise why. The fried chicken tenders were juicy and crispy. Plus, the homemade pickles bring just the right tang to balance the richness.

I also went for the Bacon Benny this time, and it did not disappoint. The roasted garlic hollandaise was a game-changer. It added a savory depth that pairs perfectly with the salty bacon.

My only gripe? The waffles. While they were light and fluffy, they came out a bit too cold to match the rest of the dish’s cozy vibe.

Pros

  • Filipino-inspired breakfast classics
  • Relaxed atmosphere
  • Filling portions

Cons

  • Cold waffles

Holy Grill is a solid pick for all-day breakfast and brunch, though keep in mind that they only serve eggs until 11 AM on weekdays.

The last time I stopped by, I went for the classic with its slightly salty capicola ham. The eggs were spot on, with soft yolks that spilled out when cut. The hollandaise was also thick, creamy, and velvety—just the way I wanted it.

But the real MVP? The Smash Brown.  It’s crispy, golden, and bursting with flavor. It was so good that I had to get another order.

When I talked to other diners, they raved about the South Beach Benedict, and I could totally understand why. It has fresh tomatoes and creamy avocado that really elevate the dish.

The Pacific Benedict also got high marks for its perfectly cooked salmon—flaky, tender, and just the right balance of flavor.

Pros

  • All-day breakfast and brunch options
  • Thick and creamy hollandaise
  • Soft cooked eggs

Cons

  • No bennies past 11 AM and on weekends

OEB elevates Eggs Benedict by serving them on a buttery, flaky croissant with several mouth-watering options.

I chose the Korean bulgogi, and it didn’t disappoint. The tender shaved beef was seasoned with soy, garlic, and ginger. This created a deep, savory flavor that paired well with their hollandaise.

The Peperonata’s peppers and onions brought a tangy kick, perfectly complemented by the nutty brown butter hollandaise.

If you’re more of a traditionalist, OEB’s traditional Benedict is a must-try. The diners I talked to raved about the rosemary ham, Canadian bacon, and that touch of Quebec maple syrup that added just the right amount of sweetness.

Another dish I loved was the Holy Crab. Its fresh wild blue crab paired with tangy Dijonnaise really packs a punch.

I just found the portion sizes to be disappointing. They were a bit smaller than I expected.

The service wasn’t great either—I had to flag down my server a few times just to get a refill.

Pros

  • Served on a fresh croissant
  • Variety of Benny options
  • Creamy brown butter hollandaise

Cons

  • Small serving size
  • Slow service

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday – 8 AM to 3 PM

The Galaxie Diner is a throwback to the classic diners of yesteryear. It’s got that retro-style vibe, checkered floors, and a jukebox pumping out oldies.

I really appreciated the coffee. It was always flowing, which is a huge plus for a coffee-lover like me.

The bottomless toast and hash browns were another highlight. They were crispy, golden, and really pairs well with the breakfast dishes they offer.

I’ve heard regulars rave about the wild smoked Pacific salmon Benny, especially the tangy kick from the capers and onions.

The veggie Benny also gets plenty of love for its fresh combo of spinach, red peppers, and onions.

But it was the Reuben Benny that stole the show for me. It was everything I hoped for. The gouda was creamy and perfectly melted, while the eggs were poached to perfection with silky, runny yolks.

However, not everything hit the mark—the croissant was dry, and the hollandaise was too watery. This might leave you wishing for a bit more finesse in the execution.

Pros

  • Retro diner atmosphere
  • Bottomless toast
  • Perfectly poached eggs

Cons

  • Croissant lacks freshness
  • Watery hollandaise

Incredible food, service, and atmosphere

“Incredible food, service, and atmosphere.

Had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict on a crossiant.  Homemade Hollandaise sauce, eggs cooked to order, crossiant was light and fluffy the potatoes were crispy and flavorfull. The restaurant is small but has a great atmosphere and decor. Can’t wait to visit Calgary again to try other food options.”

– Linda Clement, Google Reviews

Flavorful and filling classic eggs Benedict

“This small retro-themed diner has a very fun aesthetic, and all the decorations are perfect for the theme. There was 15 min wait to be seated, but the service was friendly, fast and the food fresh and delicious. The breakfast comes with bottomless hash browns that taste really good and are served steaming hot from the grill. The portions are generous, I ordered the classic eggs Benedict with smoked meat, which was flavourful and filling. I also recommend getting a milkshake with your meal as they are made fresh with Foothills Creamery ice cream and are a great addition to your diner experience.”

At Blue Star Diner, the bennies truly steal the show, and it’s easy to see why.

After trying their smoked salmon and avocado version, I can confidently say it’s a standout. The smoked salmon was rich, the avocado perfectly ripe, and the tangy onions and capers tied it all together.

The hollandaise was creamy but could’ve been thicker. The red potato hash browns were fine, but nothing to write home about.

The sauteed kale and mushroom Benny is another favorite. The caramelized onions paired with the earthy kale were a winning combination, and diners rave about the depth of flavor it delivers.

It’s also impressive that the menu goes beyond Bennies. Blue Star Diner also offers delicious options like brioche French toast and mac and cheese gratin. These options offer something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for sweetness or comfort.

Just a heads-up: breakfast is only served until 3 PM, and the wait can be long—I waited 35 minutes. Plan ahead to avoid missing out.

Pros

  • Creamy hollandaise sauce
  • Wide range of menu items

Cons

  • Breakfast is served until 3 PM only
  • Long wait times for a table
