I hate it when I go out to breakfast and end up with a sorry limp bagel or worse—the ones so dense they could double as a doorstop.
One time, I even had a bagel so dry it tasted like I was biting into a rock.
Since then, I’ve learned my lesson and decided to put an end to the bagel nightmares by finding the best places in Calgary.
After tasting my way through every shop and every hole in the wall that dared to call itself a bagel haven, here are the top bagel shops in Calgary that actually serve good food!
How much does a bagel cost in Calgary?
A bagel in Calgary costs at least 2 CAD. However, this is just an estimate, and the actual cost will depend on the type of bagel, toppings, and more.

1. Wayne’s Bagels

Address: 831 10 Ave SW
Contact Details: +1 403-270-7090
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday – 8 AM to 5 PM
Wayne’s Bagels, the OG Montreal bagel joint in town, has been serving up delicious bagels for over 22 years, and it shows.
The bagels are next level. They’re kettle-boiled in honey water, which gives them a fantastic crispy crust on the outside and a soft, chewy texture on the inside.
Many customers raved about the cinnamon-raisin bagel and the fresh, multigrain one with a hint of sweetness.
Additionally, Wayne’s has a variety of bagel toppers. They have peanut butter, honey, and a “Honey, I’m Cheese” option (cream cheese and honey).
One thing that really stood out to use was their huge selection of cream cheeses. They have everything, from classic to more adventurous flavors like strawberry and blueberry. They even have jalapeno and lox, which is smoked salmon.
I opted for one of their signature bagel sandwiches, the Montreal smoked meat. It came loaded with savoury Montreal smoked meat and sweet mustard.
The only drawback is the service. While the bagels are worth the wait, it can take a while to get your order—I waited 20 minutes for mine.
Great little place downtown to grab a quality bagel
“This is a great little place downtown to grab a quality bagel. I’ve tried a couple of their bagels and particularly liked the ham and cheese bagel, which I waited until lunchtime to eat, and was still great! The thing that’s Wayne’s does the best is obviously the bagel. On top (and bottom) of everything else, the bagel shines through. Super soft with a nice crisped outer layer, no matter which bagel you choose, it is sure to leave you wanting another.”

2. I Love You Coffee Shop

Address: 348b 14 Ave SW
Contact Details: +1 403-454-1901
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Thursday – 8 AM to 6 PM
- Friday – 8 AM to 7 PM
- Saturday – 9 AM to 7 PM
- Sunday – 9 AM to 6 PM
I Love You Coffee Shop, tucked away under a convenience store, offers a cozy and laid-back vibe. They serve up some great coffee and, of course, amazing bagels.
What’s really impressive about this shop is the range of adventurous bagel creations they have. One of my favorites is the Cowboy Pizza bagel—with pizza sauce, mozzarella, and basil—which you won’t find elsewhere.
Another standout is their smoked turkey bagel which comes with pesto, spinach, and mayo. The tomato and Gouda further make every bite flavor-packed.
The shop itself has a cool Japanese jazz bar vibe, with colorful art lining the walls and vinyl records spinning throughout the day. The old-school feeling made me want to stay longer and keep browsing through their excellent selection of records.
The only drawback is the limited seating. Plus, the few seats they had weren’t really the most comfortable you could find, so I ended up standing most of the time.

Operating Hours:
- Monday – 10 AM to 3 PM
- Tuesday to Friday & Sunday – 9 AM to 5 PM

The buzz surrounding Montreal Bagels is undeniable. Everyone raves about the authentic Montreal bagels, and I can see why.
It’s a small shop with limited parking. However, the moment you step through the door, you’re greeted by the heavenly aroma of freshly baked bagels.
I’ve personally tried the poppy seed bagel, and it did not disappoint. It was chewy and had a slightly sweet, nutty flavor that wasn’t overwhelming.
Others I spoke to prefer the sesame seed bagel because they love the extra crunch and bold flavor the sesame seeds provide.
If you want toppings, the smoked salmon bagel is a popular choice. Paired with mustard and pickles, it’s the ideal combination of savory and tangy.
The one drawback is that this place doesn’t accept cards, which can be a bit of a hassle when you’re not bringing cash.

Contact Details: +1 403-453-5121
Operating Hours:
- Monday – 10 AM to 7 PM
- Tuesday to Sunday – 8:30 AM to 7 PM
St. Lawrence Bagels is another spot serving authentic Montreal-style bagels. With every bite, you can taste the smoky flavor of their wood-fired ovens.
What sets this shop apart is it offers both fresh and frozen bagels. I found this super convenient for when you want a bagel fix at home.
The classic Montreal bagel is a favorite among many because it’s dense and chewy. The subtle sweetness adds to its charm, making it a perfect choice for many.
I opted for the “Everything” bagel, which comes with bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. The bagel was also loaded with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and garlic. While it was a bit on the salty side, it was still perfectly balanced and flavorful.
The only major inconvenience is that they only take cash or e-transfers.
“Server was friendly and helpful. The salmon bagel is a classic that hit the spot once again. You get your money’s worth and would recommend this local spot.”
– Jacqueline Bangoura, Google Reviews
“Amazing bagels! Stopped in early in the morning 9:15 and they had the wood oven fired up. The smell was amazing. For fresh bagels, they just had a couple options (plain and sesame) because it was early in the day but they had a variety of day-old options and an assortment that were frozen.
Ended up getting a few bagels fresh from the oven that were still warm alongwith an assortment of frozen. Taste and texture similar to other Montreal style bagels I’ve had. Will definitely be going back.”

5. Bagel Daze

Address: 204 7a St NE
Contact Details: +1 587-971-4701
Operating Hours:
- Wednesday to Friday – 7 AM to 5 PM
- Saturday and Sunday – 8 AM to 5 PM
When I checked out Bagel Daze, what really caught my attention was its flexibility. Customers can choose their bagel flavor for the day and then customize it to their liking.
The topping choices are impressive, ranging from classic mayo and mustard to honey mustard and even peanut butter.
I also love that they offer a variety of meat, such as bacon, sausage, and braised pulled beef. There are also plenty of veggies to choose from—spinach, tomato, onion, and more.
But what I probably loved the most was their wide selection of cheese. They offer everything, from Asiago and cheddar to goat cheese.
The last time I went, I got honey mustard, braised pulled beef, and spinach. I then topped it off with Asiago and cheddar. The bagel was fresh and chewy, and all the toppings were so flavorful and well-balanced.
To be honest, the only drawback was the staff. They weren’t as friendly or attentive as I hoped. They seemed a bit rushed and like they were just going through the motions.
But hey, maybe I caught them on a bad day. Even with that, I’d still go back for those amazing bagels.
