How We Picked the Top Vegan Restaurants in Calgary
We assessed the restaurants based on the following factors:
1. SaVeg Cafe
Quality | 4/5 |
Accessibility | 4.5/5 |
Value for Money | 3.5/5 |
Efficiency | 4/5 |
Customer Satisfaction | 4/5 |
This small family-owned vegan cafe caught our eye because of its overwhelmingly positive reviews and delicious-looking food on its social media pages. So we decided to go there and try their dishes.
Not only were we happy because the food was scrumptious, but the presentation of the dishes was also so aesthetically-pleasing – they were almost too beautiful to eat.
What’s unique about them is that they combine traditional Korean cuisine and vegan cooking in their menu. They have a vast array of choices – from unique burritos to different rice bowls.
If you love breakfast, they also have a lot of options that will make your mornings more exciting. They’re available until 11 AM on weekdays and 12 PM on weekends.
We love the breakfast burrito from that menu. Their “No Eggs” Benedict is also a crowd-favorite –so much so that it’s now available the whole day despite being on the breakfast menu originally.
Something about their food and ambiance just brings us great comfort. The interiors are cozy, and the staff is very attentive, friendly, and welcoming.
They also make sure to explain their menu to you if you’re not really familiar with Korean food. One thing to note, however, is that some dishes tend to be spicy – so make sure to ask them about that first.
We love that they’re so accessible. Whether you dine in, pick up your food, or have your food delivered to you either through the website or through Uber Eats, Doordash, or Skip The Dishes, they’re very efficient.
That being said, we did notice that their price range is quite high, especially their smoothies. Their smoothies range from $7.14 to $9.05.
The quality is superb, however, so you at least get what you pay for!
Pros
- Combination of Korean cuisine and vegan cooking
- Aesthetic presentation
- Cozy interiors
- Quick service
- Friendly staff
- Wide array of choices
Cons
- Some dishes might be too spicy for you (Make sure to check before ordering)
- Dishes and smoothies are on the expensive side
- Closed on Mondays
Really enjoyed the healthy food and beautiful vibe
Cute little cafe with distinct Korean veg options and friendly staff. Food was delicious with good mix of veggies, plant based protein & sauces. We ordered Japchee noodles, Bulgogi wrap. Really enjoyed the healthy food and beautiful vibe. -Apurva Z.
My heart is happy and my belly full
Wow. Absolutely delicious. My heart is happy and my belly full. Had the no eggs Benedict and I will definitely be returning to try everything on the menu!!! Thank you for the great food! – Sarah M.
2. Hearts Choices Cafe Market
Quality | 5/5 |
Accessibility | 5/5 |
Value for Money | 3/5 |
Efficiency | 3/5 |
Customer Satisfaction | 4/5 |
This 2018 winner of the Top Choice Award for Best Vegetarian or Vegan Food in Calgary won us over because of their fantastic food choices and great service.
They offer delicious Thai food, different kinds of burgers, sandwiches, and wraps, and some unique main dishes and side dishes. Their servings are pretty hearty, and we definitely thought everything we tried was tasty.
Some dishes we can highly recommend are the pad thai, BBQ pulled porkless burger, and mac and cheese. Aside from the good food, we also love the friendly staff who’ll greet you with a smile and answer all your questions promptly.
Hearts Choices actually have two locations, with their main branch and a farmers’ market location. Aside from dining in, you can also buy their products to take home.
They have frozen goods such as Thai vegan curries, cashew cheese sauces, peanut satay sauce, snacks, etc. We love how they make vegan food more accessible to people.
Do know that their farmers’ market location has a different set of operating hours (9 AM-5 PM) and is closed from Mondays to Wednesdays.
Personally, we love going to the main branch more because they offer a more varied menu there. Granted, their menu overall isn’t that extensive compared to other restaurants.
So that’s something to consider. Although we do wish we had more choices, we can vouch for the quality of the ingredients and the taste of the food.
As for the price of the food, we think they are on the higher end of the spectrum. You do get what you pay for, though.
Make sure to check their promos to get better deals.
Lastly, we also like that they offer catering. They’re a good choice for office parties and celebrations.
Pros
- Friendly staff
- Has catering services available

O.m.g. If I could make vegan food taste this good, I’d switch over in a heartbeat! I will say it’s in a *unique* part of town but the food was amazing! Definitely will come here again whenever we’re in Calgary. Photo below: Ginger chick’un wrap. Delicious and such big portions! -Diane S.
Friendly staff and the food was delicious
Nice place, friendly staff and the food was delicious! I really enjoyed the crispy chick’un and waffles with delicious rosemary gravy and maple syrup. There are a couple of more dishes I just have to try! We will be back! -Darryl S.
3. Vegan Street Inglewood
Quality | 5/5 |
Accessibility | 4/5 |
Value for Money | 3/5 |
Efficiency | 4/5 |
Customer Satisfaction | 4/5 |
Looking at Vegan Street Kitchen & Lounge now, it’s amazing to see how much they had grown as a restaurant from when they started as a food truck in June 2018. Their owners Darian and Laine are passionate about serving comfort food for vegans and they’ve become very popular.
They have an extensive menu offering soups and salads, rice bowls, noodles, tacos, burgers, sandwiches, different sides, and desserts. They even have a kids’ vegan menu, making it a nice, family-friendly restaurant.
Their food is amazing, and we particularly enjoyed their rice bowls and tacos. They use fresh and locally-sourced ingredients in all their dishes, and everything is 100% plant-based.
Another thing that sets them apart is that aside from the restaurant, they have a speak-easy bar on the second floor of the restaurant called The Attic Bar & Stage.
They serve a wide selection of cocktails, draft beers, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. They also have some of the best stone-fired pizzas we’ve tried.
You can also watch live performances here. It’s not just a great place for food and drinks but also a fun hang-out place you can visit with your friends and family.
We like how warm and inviting the whole place is, and the staff is amazing at handling customers. We felt very comfy at the restaurant because they really made an effort to make it a great experience for us.
We don’t seem to be the only ones who think so. Many Calgarians share our sentiments, and the restaurant earned a lot of raving reviews.
That being said, the food here can get very expensive, especially their main dishes. So it’s probably not the best place to go if you’re on a tight budget.
Still, what sets them apart for us is that they offer a very personalized experience. You come here for more than just the food, you also visit for the friendly community and the comforting atmosphere they have built throughout the years.
Pros
- Has a speak-easy bar with liver performances and great drinks
- Wide selection of offerings
- Has a kids’ menu
- Warm and inviting atmosphere
Cons
- One of the most expensive restaurants on this list
- Inconsistent operating hours
- No delivery available
Super tasty vegan comfort food
Probably my favourite restaurant in the city. Super tasty vegan comfort food, great specials and amazing staff. It’s nice to see the servers having fun at work..speaks a lot about management. My favourite dish is the fried chick’n sandwich I discovered at the beginning of the pandemic. But I’ve had a lot of their menu and nothing has disappointed. Their cocktails are fantastic too! LOVE their vegan caesar! All of the staff are great but I’d like to highlight Sergio. Love the energy and genuine friendliness. Thanks as always. By the way..the Vegan Street Kitchen taco bar in Inglewood is equally delicious. -Christopher S.
I couldn’t possibly rave more about this place
I cannot explain how much I love this place. I get extremely anxious in restaurants and I normally don’t dine in for that reason. This is the only restaurant I can dine in at. The atmosphere is calm, welcoming and non-judgmental. I fully feel comfortable here, which is saying a lot! The food is amazing, and I am always making my non-vegan friends try it and the staff are just wonderful. I couldn’t possibly rave more about this place, I love it here and I will forever be a returning customer! -Caitlin S.
4. The Coup

Value for Money | 3.5/5 |
Efficiency | 4/5 |
Customer Satisfaction | 3.7/5 |
The Coup has built a strong reputation as a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Calgary since its launch in 2004. After trying them out ourselves, we saw the reason behind the hype.
It’s a charming modern restaurant with a vibrant vibe that uses whole, organic, and local ingredients for recipes. And most of the food they offer is made from scratch, which we love.
They have a wide variety of offerings, including vegetables, noodles, rice meals, salads, small snacks, a brunch menu, and some desserts.
Something to note, however, is although almost all of the items on the menu are vegan, some are vegetarian and still have animal products in them.
So make sure to check before ordering. The good thing is that they’re very transparent about the ingredients on their menu so you know exactly what you’re getting.
We really enjoyed the wild mushroom fried rice, grilled broccolini, udon noodle hot pot, and smashed cucumber salad. Their almond cookies were also a great surprise and are nicely paired with their hot drinks.
They have a pretty wide selection of drinks such as coffee, tea, other hot drinks, natural sodas, kombucha, and juice.
Our personal favorite? Their steaming lavender matcha hot chocolate!
It has a unique flavor and is very comforting. Speaking of comfort, this place is fantastic because of its warm atmosphere.
It’s relaxed and laid-back – making it a great place to bring a book or chill with friends.
The staff is friendly and easy to talk to. They are very efficient based on what we’ve seen with the respectable waiting time.
The cost of the food is also not overly expensive but within industry standards. Overall, we had a great time and we highly recommend you visit them.

Service is excellent here with friendly and helpful servers
My wife and I went here for dinner and can say that we really enjoyed it. Service is excellent here with friendly and helpful servers who are always able to offer good suggestions and are happy to swap or adjust things to your liking. Food is amazing and is perfect for those that are vegan or plant based. The flavours are incredible and you can’t get enough of it. We will definitely be back to keep trying different things on the menu. -Steven C.
The food choices were good
I am from Toronto but I was in Calgary for some business and checked out the Coup with my cousin for Lunch. It was a nice vibe and good service. The food choices were good and tasted great to be honest. I was satisfied. The Arnold Palmer was a refreshing drink. I enjoyed my self and got a chance to catch up with my cousin from Toronto. We had a good time. -Jay J.
5. Happy Veggie House
Quality | 4/5 |
Accessibility | 4.5/5 |
Value for Money | 3/5 |
Efficiency | 3.5/5 |
Customer Satisfaction | 4/5 |
We think that Happy Veggie House is unique because it offers vegan Chinese cuisine that tastes authentic and is incredibly delicious. They have an extensive menu of dishes that includes various appetizers, soups, main dishes, noodles, and noodle soups.
Personally, we thoroughly enjoyed the stuffed tofu roll, vegetarian dumplings, and pineapple sweet and sour vegetarian pork. They’re lauded for their great alternatives to meat that doesn’t scrimp on flavor.
We also love that they have a wide selection of fried rice that is just to die for – definitely worth a try.
We do wish they also offered authentic Chinese drinks on their menu, however. All that’s available is canned pop, and we hope they’ll have more choices in the future.
Still, aside from the excellent food, we were also impressed by their fast service and accommodating servers. If you’re not that familiar with Chinese food, for example, they’ll make sure to explain the dishes to you.
The size of the servings was also respectable, so you get your money’s worth. Granted, their main dishes are quite expensive.
However, the soups, appetizers, and fried rice are more affordable. So that’s something to consider.
We also prefer dining in because delivery is only available in select areas. So you have to check first if your area is included on their website.
We also think their website needs updating because there isn’t a lot of information available. Still, we love their food and their service and we will definitely go back.
Pros
- Well-loved Chinese cuisine made accessible to vegans
- Accommodating servers
- Fast service
- Good serving size
- Wide selection of dishes available
Cons
- Not a lot of drink choices
- Outdated website
- Main dishes quite expensive
- Delivery is only available in certain areas
The service was amazing
Amazing food that’s completely vegan! We especially loved the soya (meat substitute) for its tasty chewy texture and the way it soaked in the peppery flavor of the sauce on the noodles, so I highly recommend ordering a dish with that in it! The service was amazing and the people who worked there were very happy to explain everything. -Akil I.
There are many spins on the normally meaty dishes
An awesome hidden gem in Chinatown that serves only, if not mostly, vegetarian/vegan Chinese dishes! Great prices per portion in my opinion. The menu is varied and unique, there are many spins on the normally meaty dishes like ginger beef (which in this case could be made with taro instead). The lighter, healthier food options here leave you feeling satisfied and a bit more health-conscious in a way. Pleasant service, decently fast wait times, and a nice seating area arranged in a food court fashion. I highly recommend the mixed gluten dish which comes in a variety of sauces and flavours. Come check this place out! It’s located inside a small hub-like enclosure with two entrance/exits on either side. -Jason Ngo

In the mood for some vegan Asian comfort food? Nan’s Noodle House is one of the best places in Calgary for that, based on our experience.
They may be fairly new, but they have etched their place in the community because of their comforting vibes and wide range of dishes.
We love their soup-based dishes such as pho from Vietnam and ramen from Japan. They also have different kinds of subs and buns, dumplings, spring rolls, and various drinks to wash the food down.
For us, their black garlic ramen, pho, pho sate, and laksa are show-stoppers. We also love their Thai coconut iced tea and Thai iced coffee.
Do know that some dishes contain peanuts and gluten, so tell them if you have any allergies or preferences when you order. They make sure to accommodate requests, which we love about them.
Aside from their great service and delicious food, we like that they’re a full vegan market. They have shelves and freezers filled with sauces, frozen vegan proteins, ready-made meals, and specialty plant-based food.
So you can enjoy a good meal and even have some shopping done. Talk about hitting two birds with one stone.
Their pricing is pretty standard, so it’s very accessible from what we’ve seen. They also have big portions, so you really get your money’s worth.
We do wish their website offered more information about them because it makes it a bit hard to browse through their offerings.
Still, overall, we think they’re a great vegan restaurant to watch out for – so don’t miss out.

Their all-vegan menu is truly impressive
Nan’s Noodle House is a hidden gem in the city! Their all-vegan menu is truly impressive and the flavors are out of this world. If you’re looking for a great vegan place for big groups, The Allium is one of the best options in Calgary. This classy restaurant’s menu is designed to be shared, which we love.
That being said, their menu isn’t as extensive compared to the other restaurants. So if you’re looking for many choices, this might not be the best place for you.
On the other hand, if you’re a quality-over-quantity kind of person, this is the real deal. The food is superb taste-wise and even in its presentation.
We loved their fried forbidden rice, radiatori, and crispy fried mushrooms. They also have a family-style four-course prix fixe menu that costs $50 per person – worth every penny if you ask us.
We really enjoyed this option because you get an excellent fine-dining experience for a reasonable price, perfect for special occasions for your family or group of friends.
Aside from the delectable food, we also like their wide selection of drinks. They have hand-crafted cocktails, non-alcoholic options, wine, and draft beer.

The food was delicious and well presented
For our last dinner at Calgary we choose this restaurant because it has a lot of gluten-free options. It was a very pleasant surprise and I regret that we didn’t discover it earlier. The food was delicious and well-presented. We shared two main and two desserts. All the staff was very friendly and it was nice not to get everything served in a hurry but with enough time between the dishes. That gives the feeling to be an evening out. -Ine
This would be a really good date spot
Quite possibly the best food I’ve ever had. I came with my friend and we shared three plates: the black bean falafels, the fried mushrooms, and the squash gnocchi. The service was really good too and the vibes were amazing. This would be a really good date spot. My favourite was the fried mushrooms. It was reminiscent of calamari but actually so much better than any I’ve had before. Perfectly seasoned and complimented so well with the sauce and pickled vegetables. I’ll definitely be thinking about this meal for a long time coming. The drinks were also so unique and tasty. I’d definitely come back just to try out some of the other ones. -C.L.
