Look, I hear a lot of jokes about how some people only get into writing because they hate math…and unfortunately, I’m not beating the allegations. The most math I do daily is adding to my word count or trying to sort out my bills.
That being said, math is still a big cornerstone of education in general since it’s applied almost everywhere, to the point where it almost feels inescapable. And if you can’t beat them, join them, as they say!
I wasn’t lucky enough to have one when I was still in school, but I know a lot of people who really want to ace their entrance exams.
That’s why I asked my Best Calgary team to help me look for math tutors in Calgary. With no shortage of them around, we’ve rounded up the best ones here!
How much does it cost to get a math tutor in Calgary?
Getting a math tutor in Calgary can cost you anywhere from $30 to $80 an hour, depending on the course material, whether it is a group session or a one-on-one lesson, and even the location of the class.

Drive down any spot in Calgary, and you’re likely to run into a MathPro Math Tutoring center at least once. Having been around since 2004, it was one of the first names locals recommended when we asked for tutoring centers in Calgary.
Visiting them to check out the subjects they offered was a breeze. With a MathPro center practically around the corner wherever we went, we found them easy to locate and park at too!
Their lessons were no slouches either, covering grade-school math through intermediate subjects for senior high. Lessons can also be scheduled at a convenient time, reducing the need to rearrange your schedule.
As we heard from a few students, the center also offered one-on-one tutoring with a wide range of tutors. Most students we spoke to were happy with their assignments, though some said switching to a different tutor was easy if it didn’t work out.
That said, the pricing for regular lessons is quite high, with sessions renewing every four weeks. We’d definitely recommend doing an initial consult to determine whether their tutoring style fits you.
We’re just disappointed to hear that sessions could get cancelled or delayed on short notice. We’d advise keeping in touch with your assigned tutor to prepare for these.

Students can benefit from learning in a more focused setting, and a popular pick for students like that in Calgary was Mathnasium.
When we looked into the center, their offerings didn’t disappoint. They cover math lessons for the whole K-12 curriculum. Their lessons were sorted by grade, from early childhood programs to high school math tutoring.
Our visit immediately showed us the center’s welcoming atmosphere, and the team responded to our questions easily. We found the whole place surprisingly engaging, and the students we got to see seemed pretty comfortable in the space too.
We especially appreciate the center’s free assessments. It helps students determine whether the center’s tutoring style meshed well with them. Since tutoring can cost a pretty penny, that kind of offer is a plus in our book.
These assessments allowed the staff to prepare progress reports, which in turn could help students understand their skill levels. Regulars told us these reports persisted into the actual program, making progress tracking easier.
That said, we do have to note that Mathnasium is primarily focused on tutoring in a center with small groups. Only online sessions are available for students who prefer fully private, one-on-one tutoring.

Looking for something a little more lowkey and low-commitment? Level Up Math Tutoring is a solid choice. The company was a smaller, private tutoring center, and we were glad to find it.
When we reached out to ask about their offerings, we noted that these were less focused on covering the entire curriculum for certain school years. Instead, lessons covered specific mathematical concepts, such as transformations, and even physics.
Level Up rose to popularity for its private tutoring, and it wasn’t hard to see why. Lessons were held either at the center or online. That’s handy for students who learn better at home!
Students we chatted with also praised the one-on-one tutoring. Most reported never feeling rushed through a set curriculum or concept, allowing them to learn at their own pace.
Many also appreciate the center’s willingness to provide study materials at no cost. These could range from textbook excerpts to full lists of practice questions and exams to help with exam prep.
That said, the center’s smaller size presented some difficulties with scheduling. A few students said they could go days without knowing when their next session was, so we’d advise working out a schedule with the tutor in advance.

Want to secure a tutor for one-on-one sessions but don’t feel comfortable going to a center or doing it completely online? RM Tutoring might be up your alley. This center offers easy accessibility and in-house tutoring.
The center’s tutoring services spanned a variety of subjects, with a particular focus on maths and science. Their math programs started in K-6 and continued through university-level courses, such as Calculus I and Calculus II.
It surprised us at first to hear that RM Tutoring didn’t have a fixed center to hold lessons. We learned upon reaching out that tutors had designated libraries for students to visit, or they could be booked for in-home or online tutoring.
Lessons could be carried out in groups, one-on-one, or even in pairs for more focused learning.
We didn’t neglect to ask students about the tutoring, of course. Most were happy with their lesson plans. A particular highlight was how quick it was to assess, find, and pair students with designated tutors to fit their learning styles.
However, we noticed that the price for in-home tutoring can be quite high per hour. If your location is already close to one of the center’s designated libraries, we’d definitely recommend going for that or their online sessions to help ease the budget.

Ace It is perfect for those students who just need to brush up on specific lessons.
As we found out, Ace It Tutoring served more as a drop-in tutoring center, with students free to join any lesson and tutor at just about any time that was convenient. We find this perfect for students balancing already packed schedules.
We noted that the center primarily covered maths and sciences, offering lessons from 9th to 12th grade. Their subjects covered various aspects of mathematics, from the basics to advanced courses such as calculus.
That said, we found the tutoring center not suitable for younger learners. There were limited lessons for lower grade levels, so we’d advise those not taking these courses yet to start when their grade level reaches it.
What really stood out to us, though, was their diploma prep courses. These had to be reserved, but most students were happy with the center’s thorough lesson plans for subjects like chemistry, biology, and math.
The per-session cost was also quite reasonable given the length of the lessons and the flexible schedule. The center is quite accessible for students, even on a limited allowance.
