Quality of Products: We chose shops with reliable, well-built bikes from trusted brands. The bikes should deliver durability and solid performance for riders of all levels.

Product Range: We selected shops with a diverse selection, from entry-level city bikes to high-performance mountain and electric bikes. Accessories like helmets, locks, and other must-haves were also a plus.

Customer Service: We prioritised shops with friendly, knowledgeable staff. We relied on customer feedback to determine whether they offered honest advice, expert fittings, and patient support.

Pricing: We compared these shops to other shops and considered those that offer fair and transparent pricing.

My friends have officially entered their Strava era, and I couldn’t let them have all the fun. That’s why I’ve been tagging along on their bike shop hunts around Calgary. Anytime someone needed a shopping buddy to scope out the perfect ride, I was there.

It turned out to be a blast. We checked out a bunch of spots, compared deals, and scoped out which bikes gave the best bang for our buck. I’m now seriously considering getting my own–just gotta pick the one.

If you’re also feeling that fitness itch and thinking about hopping on the cycling bandwagon, stick around and find out our picks!

How much do bikes cost in Calgary?

Bikes typically cost anywhere from $300 to over $5,000 in Calgary, depending on the type and brand. Entry-level bikes are around $300-$800, while high-end and e-bikes can go $2,000 and up.

1. The Bike Shop Central

Business hours:

  • Monday to Saturday: 10 AM – 6 PM
  • Sunday: 10 AM – 4 PM

Website

The Bike Shop Central has been around for over 45 years and is a go-to for cyclists because of its huge selection. They have bikes for road, mountain, and even triathlon.

During our visit to the store, we also spotted top-tier brands like Cervelo, Electra, and Linus. It’s really impressive how deep their stock goes, particularly for mountain bike parts.

Clients we talked to mentioned Conner, who helped them set up their new bikes. He explained everything clearly, from how the frame fits to how the gears work, and didn’t rush them at all. We really appreciate that kind of personal service.

We also heard from someone who ordered parts to be shipped to Ontario. Even when there was a problem with a tire almost a year later, the staff handled it quickly without any fuss. That says a lot about how they treat their customers, even after the sale.

It also helps that they’ve got a modern edge with an easy-to-use online store and free shipping over $40. It’s a small detail, but it adds to the convenience.

That said, their accessory section could use a bit more variety. It’s not a deal-breaker, but if you’re after niche add-ons, you might need to look elsewhere or order in.

Their labour rates for tune-ups and repairs are also higher than those of other local shops.

Pros

  • 45 years of reputation in the cycling community
  • Wide selection of bikes
  • Impressive stock of hard-to-find mountain bike parts
  • Top-tier brands
  • Excellent customer service
  • Strong after-sales support
  • Convenient online shopping
  • Free shipping on orders over $40

Cons

  • Limited accessory variety
  • Higher labour costs

They even gave me a quick lesson on bike pedals

“Couldn’t figure out that one pedal was a reverse thread, so after a lot of effort decided to bring my bike here. They got the pedal off quickly and gave me a quick lesson on bike pedals. 0 charge 100% courtesy and quality service. I will be coming here for my gear and parts moving forward!”

Business hours:

Our team visited the Calgary Cycle, and we were impressed with the store. It was spacious, well-organized, and packed with bikes for every type of rider. We saw top brands like Trek and Norco, and the e-bike options looked great too.

One thing we liked was that if you buy an e-bike, you can get diagnostic and software updates for just a small extra fee. Not many places offer that, and it’s super handy for keeping your bike running smoothly.

Their free tune-up packages also stood out to us. Depending on how much you spend, you could get one free tune-up or unlimited ones for life. If your bike costs over $3,000,  you get free tune-ups forever, which is pretty rare and adds great long-term value.

While the free shipping on orders over $100 is a nice bonus, it doesn’t apply to bikes or oversized items, which are often the more expensive purchases. It’s still a perk for smaller gear and accessories.

We also have to give a shout-out to Lynn in sales. She was super helpful, knew her stuff, and didn’t try to push anything we didn’t need. It was great customer service!

Now, they’re not the cheapest place around. But to be fair, you’re paying for quality bikes, expert service, and long-term service support. If you ride often, it’ll more than pay off in the long run.

Pros

  • Wide selection of bikes
  • Top brands
  • Offers diagnostic and update services for e-bikes
  • Free tune-up packages
  • Free shipping on orders over $100
  • Excellent customer service
  • Good choice for regular bikers

Cons

  • Shipping limitations
  • Relatively higher pricing

Quality bikes with amazing staff

“Excellent service. I was there during their September sale, and the store was crazy busy!! But each salesperson took their time to help me, and Lynn went above and beyond to help me find the bike of my dreams! The service team was great, helping me take off my old pedals and install them into my new bike. If you are looking for quality bikes with amazing staff, then this is the bike store for you!”

Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable

“I dealt with Lynn in sales and purchased a very expensive bike. She was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and if she didn’t have an answer, she would investigate and get back to me quickly. Not at all pushy, just the right amount of friendly, and kept offering things to make my experience the best it could be. I cannot recommend this shop enough. They are absolutely fabulous to deal with, and I have no doubt that their customer service will be excellent should I have any issues with my new bike.”

3. Ridley’s Cycle

Address: 223 10 St NW
Phone: +1 403-283-1421
Business hours:

  • Monday: 11 AM – 5 PM
  • Tuesday to Wednesday: 10 AM – 6 PM
  • Thursday: 10 AM – 7 PM
  • Friday: 10 AM – 6 PM
  • Saturday: 10 AM – 5 PM
  • Sunday: 11 AM – 4 PM

Website

Ridley’s Cycle focuses on quality bikes from trusted brands like Trek and Giant, catering to casual riders and enthusiasts. We noticed that they avoid low-end bikes, which is a plus if you’re looking for something that’ll last and perform well.

Their selection is diverse. They have options for commuting, road racing, cross-country, and even stylish options like Linus for those who want both function and fashion.

We also appreciate their smooth exchange process. One of their clients once bought a Roscoe 7, but later found a better deal on a full suspension bike. Customer service was quick to assist and made sure the bike was properly fitted.

Their price guarantee is another plus. If you find the same bike model for a lower price within 14 days, they’ll match it (except for clearance items). This gives you confidence that you’re not going to pay more than you need to.

The free shipping on orders over $99 is also great. However, larger items, such as bikes and oversized racks, may incur additional fees depending on your location. This can be a hassle for customers in more remote areas.

They currently only ship within Canada and the US, which is understandable. But, it would be nice if they expanded to other areas at some point.

Pros

  • High-quality bikes from top brands
  • Wide selection
  • Extra services
  • Smooth exchange process
  • Price match guarantee
  • Free shipping on orders over $99

Cons

  • Extra shipping fees to large items
  • Shipping limited to Canada and the US
  • Price guarantee doesn’t apply to clearance items

Can’t say enough good things about the customer service

“Friendly and knowledgeable service technicians are always willing to help you achieve your vision! Sales staff are always helpful, never pushy. Everyone there is always willing to go the extra mile to find the parts you need, whether or not they’re listed on the website or in store. Can’t say enough good things about the customer service at Ridley’s!”

He went above for me

“I’ve bought several bikes from Ridleys, used their service department and just generally gotten good advice from their team over the years. Travis took the award for best service about 10 Days ago. The thing is, I was merely buying a trainer that was on sale. He went above and even called me afterwards to inform me that the product was about to go on sale even more and took care of it for me.”

Business hours:

  • Monday to Wednesday: 9 AM – 6 PM
  • Thursday: 9 AM – 8 PM
  • Friday: 9 AM – 6 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: 10 AM – 5 PM

Website

If you’re into mountain biking, The Inside Line is the perfect shop for you. They don’t sell road bikes or hybrids–just pure mountain biking–so they really know their stuff around it.

They’ve got a great selection of bikes from brands like Ibis, Devinci, and Transition. We also spotted some cool local steel frame options from a brand called Krunch, aluminum bikes, and even more high-end ones with advanced suspension.

A client told us he ordered handlebars that were out of stock everywhere else. Not only did they arrive a day early, but the package also came with a handwritten thank-you note. It was a small touch, but it made the experience feel way more personal.

What we liked most is that they don’t just sell you a bike and send you on your way. They actually follow up after your purchase to help make sure your bike is set up perfectly for your weight and riding style. We appreciated that extra support.

The shop also offers bike services like suspension tuning, wheel building, and gear adjustments.

That said, the shop is focused on quality, so some of the bikes and parts can be a bit pricey. If you’re looking for something cheaper, they might not be the best fit.

Pros

  • Mountain biking specialists
  • Top-notch brands
  • Strong after-sales support
  • Fast shipping
  • Excellent customer service
  • In-house services

Cons

  • Higher pricing
  • Not for casual riders

Bike selection is sick

“Awesome shop, great selection and knowledgeable, friendly, experienced staff that ride. Great prices on gear, tools and parts, bike selection is sick. Top-notch professional service department, second to none. The best and only shop to go to in Calgary for hardcore MTN bike riders!”

Went out of their way to make it easier for us

“Amazing service with a remote purchase of knee pads. Responded promptly with questions and refunds, warranty items, and went out of their way to make it easier for us to ship, being so far away. Would recommend!”

5. Bow Cycle & Sports

Phone: +1 403-288-5422
Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 10 AM – 8 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: 10 AM – 5 PM

Website

We recently checked out Bow Cycle & Sports, and the place is huge. It’s a 24,000-square-foot shop with over 1,000 bikes on display from brands like Specialized, Cannondale, and Norco.

Their e-bike selection was impressive. They’ve got plenty of options, whether you’re looking for a high-end electric bike or commuter-friendly models. You can even rent one if you’re not ready to buy, which is great if you just want to try it out.

We also noticed a lot of good feedback from customers about their bike fitting service. It’s a full hour where they analyze your body and posture, and set you up for better balance and efficiency. It’s the kind of thing that changes your whole riding experience.

That said, the fitting area could use a little more privacy. It’s a small detail, but if you’re shy or self-conscious, it’s something to keep in mind.

The staff overall was great. They were all knowledgeable, not pushy, and passionate. We love how they explain everything clearly too.

Besides bikes, they have tons of gear, parts, and accessories. While the selection is incredible, it can be a bit overwhelming if you’re brand new to biking. But the staff are always ready to guide you through it.

As for the prices, most things are in the mid to high range. If you’re bargain hunting, this might not be your first stop.

Pros

  • Massive selection
  • Strong e-bike lineup
  • Rental options
  • One-hour session of professional bike fitting
  • Good customer service
  • Full-service shop

Cons

  • Fitting area could be more private
  • Mid to high-end pricing

They helped me pick my new bike!

“Ryan Mountain was amazing! And the staff who helped me pick my new bike. Bought a new bike for my 40th, and even though I’ve been cycling my entire life, this was my first professional fitting, and it has and is going to change my life. They book a solid hour and go through all your muscles and muscles pertaining to cycling, and make sure you are properly balanced. Everything you thought you knew about riding a bike is not what you think…. Come check out this locally owned business and don’t wait to get fitted properly!!”

Super knowledgable and helpful

“I had been shopping around online and at a few bike shops in Edmonton .. decided to come to Bow Cycle because they were sponsoring the race I had signed up for. Glad I came. I am completely new to the cycling world. Dan S was so helpful over the phone and did not disappoint when I came down in person! Super knowledgeable and didn’t push anything on me that I didn’t need. I got set up with a new gravel bike, road tires, pedals, shoes, a trainer and all the accessories. I appreciate the care and service I was given. Super pumped on everything and would recommend !!! Thanks, Dan!”
