7 Places for the Best Pizza Delivery in Calgary

7 Places for the Best Pizza Delivery in Calgary

Funny story: a few members of our team were supposed to be on a diet around the time we tried restaurants for this article.

After it was announced that this would be our next topic, though, all of them suddenly decided that the closest thing to a healthy food pyramid was a slice of pizza.

So, the whole team got to go on an all-pizza diet for two weeks, healthy resolutions be damned. Which ones did we choose as the city’s fastest, best, most consistent pizza delivery services after all that eating? Let’s find out!

How We Chose the Best Pizza Delivery in Calgary

Before that, here are the factors we use to consider our entries:

Variety – We chose pizza houses with various types of pizzas. It’s also preferable if they have different toppings to choose from.
Quality delivery – We chose pizza houses that provide prompt delivery service. They should have a simple ordering system that allows customers to schedule their orders accordingly.
Order accuracy – We chose pizza houses that have a multi-point quality control system to ensure accurate orders. It’s also a plus if they can quickly replace incorrectly delivered orders.
Performance – We chose pizza houses that have a highly skilled team and friendly staff to take the orders.

Villages Pizza has been in business since 1974. But what’s more impressive (other than their history) is their ability to maintain their pizza quality, from taste to customer service, and their seamless delivery process.

They’re a family-run pizza restaurant that uses traditional recipes and fresh ingredients. Their selection includes typical pizza flavors such as pepperoni, cheese, Hawaiian, chicken, and their  famous all-Canadian pizza.

Our favorite part of their menu is their “create your own villages pizza” section, which allows customers to customize their own pizza. We enjoyed selecting our own crust, sauce, toppings, and cheese portions using that.

Now, in terms of delivery, we do think that they’re a mile away from the competition. They have their own super-simple mobile app (website ordering is also possible), making selection, ordering, and payments fast and easy.

When we tried their app for deliveries, we were most impressed with their response speed. They provided an ETA but managed to beat it by a couple of minutes, keeping our pizza fresh like it just got out of the oven.

And if you ever decide to drop by, you’ll also enjoy the warm welcome of their staff. Actually, they’re just as friendly over the phone, so we can say that professionalism is evident regardless of how you order.

Villages Pizza is also known for contributing to the community through school lunch programs and fundraising initiatives. It just feels nice to know what part of what you’ve spent went to some good cause.

Pros

  • Established in 1974
  • Family-run pizza restaurant
  • Offers many fan-favorite pizza options
  • Allows pizza customization
  • Fast delivery through mobile app
  • On-time delivery service
  • Friendly and welcoming staff
  • Offers catering services

Cons

  • Complaints about having an incomplete menu in their mobile app
  • Minor complaints about delivering wrong orders

Pauls Pizza in Shawnessy was established in 1995, now enjoying the prestige that comes with that experience. In fact, their local reputation is well-deserved, considering the quality of service they provide.

The pizza house offers a large and diverse menu, featuring many fan favorites. But the real star of the show is their friendly customer service, which, compared to most places on this list, is exceptional.

Due to this, they’re generally well-received by the public, so much so that they’ve been showered with numerous awards. But really, the best judge is customer experience, so we focused much more on surveying patrons.

According to the customer base, their delivery services are convenient. To put it simply, they can use the shop’s online ordering system –  add their orders to their cart and complete the order with a single click.

Well, nothing’s too fancy about this procedure, but we appreciate the Cash On Delivery payment option. This is ideal given the unfortunate system errors that customers frequently encounter when paying for orders online.

Apart from their general pizza selection, they also offer other delicious snacks. We loved their steak sandwich which we found very filling for lunch – paired with fries, it’s a simple yet juicy meal overall.

For drinks, they have their well-loved iced tea. We’ve nothing much to say except it’s a really great match for their pizzas that are served with generous toppings and buttery crisp crust – our favorite guilty pleasure combo.

Pros

  • Convenient delivery via order online system
  • Cash on delivery available
  • Delivers orders on-time
  • Numerous awards received
  • Offers a lot of specials and deals
  • Offers catering services

Cons

  • Customers often encounter system errors while paying online

3. Seniore’s Pizza Restaurant

Seniore’s Pizza is a popular pizza house that also offers other amazing dishes such as wings and wraps. They’re also ideal for late-night cravings since they also deliver after hours.

Their most recent offering is an online ordering system, which they’ve been touting since they added it. That said, this isn’t a big deal for us because it’s something that many other pizza places provide.

Instead, what we liked best is that they offer free delivery to customers within 2 kilometers of their location. That said (this free delivery offer aside), we find their delivery services reasonably priced compared to the competition.

Seniore’s Pizza is also generous when it comes to deals. One offer is that they give customers free 2 liters of soft drinks for any pick-up orders over $20 – not a lot value-wise, but hey, a freebie is a freebie. Besides, we gulped down our own free 2 liters pretty happily.

They also have discounted pizza family specials, ideal if you’re eating out with a big group.

And of course, the pizza at Seniore’s Pizza is also worthy of respect. Aside from a variety of options, you can also create your own pizza with your preferred crust, toppings, and sauces.

If you order straight from the over, the first thing you’ll notice is the big slices – each one loaded with toppings. As big fans of meat, we’re happy to dive into each bite, although the pepper was a bit too much for our liking.

Aside from always being packed, the pizza is surprisingly consistent quality-wise: cheesy and chewy but never greasy. Heads up though: waiting lines are really long and it’s a test of patience your craving may not handle.

The selection of side dishes is also a noteworthy offering. We do recommend checking those out if a serving of pizza won’t suffice to satisfy your craving.

The downside is that sometimes, deliveries from them can take about an hour. Fortunately, they’re honest when it comes to providing an ETA – providing at least, a more realistic sense of expectation.

Pros

  • Specializes in Italian-style pizza
  • Has an online ordering system
  • Free delivery for customers within 2km
  • Free drinks for any pick-up orders over $20
  • Offers discounted pizza family specials
  • Offers customizable pizza styles

Cons

  • Delivery takes about an hour at most
  • Minor complaints regarding customer service

4. Nikos Pizza

If you like to go a bit more adventurous with your pizzas, we found a nice spot here Nikos Pizza. Their Greek-style pizza had been on our radar for a while and we can say that all the love and praise are well-deserved.

The slices are really thick (almost like a sandwich) and we’re even more impressed with the layer of cheese on top. The texture of the crust is fantastic and really brings out that crispness without the awful grease.

Surprisingly, the heaping portions didn’t make the pizza soggy at all – in fact, the ingredients had a tinge of freshness to them still for all of our orders. This is most likely because they fill orders relatively fast.

By the way, if you’re hearing about them for the first time, Nikos Pizza is actually only a delivery/pick-up pizza shop. Dine-in options are already out of the way, but at least they met our standards when it comes to delivery.

In line with this, the restaurant has an informative ordering system that you can access on its website. There, you can see the entire menu and compare prices while making your selection.

When you visit their site, the most frequently ordered items and dishes from this store are displayed at the top of the page – which we appreciated. It’s helpful for first-time customers in case they’re unsure what to pick.

Customers can also have their orders scheduled at their desired time, so that’s a plus for us. Of course, instant delivery is also available – just make sure you set the right options before you check out.

Now, if you’re hesitant to order online, you can also order by phone. Unfortunately, it’s fairly difficult to reach them by phone, although you may find it a better experience if you ring them outside of their busy hours.

Pros

  • Focused on pick up and delivery only
  • Informative online ordering system
  • Can schedule your order at your desired time
  • Specializes in Greek-style pizza
  • Relatively fast delivery
  • Offers catering services

Cons

  • Can be difficult to reach by phone
  • Minor poor feedback regarding the food quality

5. Best Choice Pizza

• Two medium pizzas with your choice of four toppings: starting from $34.95

Best Choice Pizza lives up to its name if it’s the range of options we’re talking about. Their extensive menu is among their best strengths, just a little behind their on-time delivery services.

Like other pizza houses, they can also deal with orders in the late hours. What’s commendable is that they still deliver the orders fast, regardless of how late into the night it is.

The only issue we see is that their online ordering system is frequently unavailable, which we personally experienced. This is a big turnoff, especially for customers who want their food delivered after midnight.

Nevertheless, they are pretty easy to reach by phone which is the second best alternative. They’re quite responsive too, so we know it won’t be a hassle even during rush hours.

On top of that, the quality of their pizza is fantastic, offering freshly-made items in a variety of options. And if you’re eating with a big group, you’ll like their 2-for-1 promotions (which are quite popular among their patrons).

We actually took advantage of the promo for our own order, since (obviously) the entire The Best Calgary team decided to take part in the, ahem, “research” for this article. All we can say is that the pizza went down a treat with our staff, as did the savings from the promo.

Other than this, they’re also generous when it comes to various pizza deals. The offers vary so it’s more recommendable to browse options on your own to take advantage of the discounts.

Pros

  • Extensive menu of signature pizzas
  • On-time delivery
  • Can deliver until and after midnight
  • Easy to reach by phone
  • Pizzas are freshly made
  • Numerous promo and deals to offer

Cons

  • Online order is often unavailable
  • Minor complaints regarding delivering wrong orders

6. Andaro’s Pizza

Andaro’s Pizza is another promising pizza delivery service in Calgary. Their pizzas are of high quality, with a wide variety to choose from all topped with accommodating delivery service in the area.

Their daily delivery begins at 11:30 AM., making them an excellent option for lunch pizza. They’re also a nice dinner spot, serving chicken, pasta, and salads, as well as pop drinks on the side.

However, customers sometimes have difficulty placing their orders due to high demand, making instant deliveries a challenge. To curb this, they have the ‘future order’ option, so you can schedule your delivery at any time.

They also do no-contact deliveries, which are actually our favorite option when ordering from them. You can simply text them ahead of time or leave a note when you order online (since there’s no feature on their system to immediately note this).

Unfortunately, some customers complained about incorrect window times that result in late deliveries. There were also complaints about their poor packaging, which included thin boxes that made the entire box oily and uncomfortable to hold.

We didn’t experience these things ourselves when we ordered, but we consider these serious issues in the experience and food quality. Fortunately, these criticisms seem to be coming from a minority of their customers.

In our own experience, the pizza they made for us was fresh, made with high-quality exotic ingredients. It was pretty much what we wanted from a place saying it makes hand-crafted, home-style pizzas.

Pros

  • Can deliver as early as 11:30 AM
  • Has a ‘future order’ option for delivery
  • No-contact delivery available
  • Offers a wide variety of pizza types
  • Pick-up available
  • Custom pizza available

Cons

  • Complaints regarding late deliveries
  • Minor issues about packaging

7. A Pizza Plus

Payment options: Credit and debit cards
Dine-in system: Walk-in

Like your typical hole-in-the-wall pizza place, A Pizza Plus has all the basics: delicious pizza, affordable prices, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Serving traditional and down-to-earth Mediterranean pizza, the place has been a popular service for 30 years in the city.

After having our fair share of gourmet pizza for days, it did feel good to come back to something simple and not trying hard at all. To be frank, it’s deliciously dank – totally not high-class but who’s ever high-class with pizza anyway?

We loved the amount of thick cheese with toppings cooked to perfection. But although we did place most of our snobbery aside, several of us still noted that the sauce does have that ‘mass-produced’ quality and taste to it.

Still, we we’re actually impressed by the price of their pizzas since most of the food quality is comparable to high-end outlets. Value for money considered, we think you’ll have a great time whether you dine in or have your orders delivered.

The best part about this all is their portion sizes, whether you’re eating alone or with a big group. They’re generous with the sizes of their pizzas, and their toppings and cheese are deliciously plentiful.

In terms of delivery, A Pizza Plus has received mixed reviews and our verdict is somewhat in the middle. There were a few complaints about long waiting hours and difficulty in placing orders.

Fortunately, there’s been a lot more positive feedback about timely deliveries. Still, we think improvements in the ordering process will make them a more worthwhile option.

All things considered, A Pizza Plus is easily a considerable pizza delivery service for Calgary residents. The pizza style options are okay, the staff is friendly, and the serving sizes are enough for any group size.

Pros

  • Over 30 years of experience
  • High-quality traditional Mediterranean pizza
  • Reasonably priced
  • Generous serving/sizes
  • Can do delivery via phone

Cons

  • A few complaints regarding delivery time
  • Minor complaints regarding difficulty placing orders
